I've only ever seen these in the UK in the 5dr lift back or 3dr hatch back variety, apparently they did a 4 door saloon as well which was available in the UK. My mother had one of these in the 90's it was champagne coloured, and I mean everything was champagne coloured, the outside, the inside, the trim, the seats, everything. I've always thought the liftback shape was a little ungainly and would be hard to make look good. However as has been proven time and time again, everything has potential. When I went to have a look for one for sale expecting them to be pretty cheap, I was somewhat surprised to find this : www.ebay.co.uk/itm/1991-H-TOYOTA-COROLLA-1-3-GL-AUTOMATIC-5-DOOR/252769161686 Nearly 3k! I know it only has 20k miles, but it is a 1.3 Auto, surely the least desirable car of all time. What's more they come with a 4A-GE so they have some real tuning potential and off the shelf hop up parts  |

I effing love these!!!
I nearly bought one as a 1.6 as my first car a decade ago, but the seller got a better offer. Then nearly bought a Celica T18 as a 1.6... but that car was trash when I went to look at it for the second time, in sunlight this time.
I still want one.
And I agree - no one seems to like them, people all called me crazy when I say I like them!!

I had a 1979 KE70 three door fastback. I loved the frameless doors and and small frameless wind down windows between the door windows and B pillar.
I'd love to see a retro version. We don't get Corollas anymore. The new Japanese cars we do get now just look too weird these days, like they have come out of a cartoon. Are they trying to outwit the French for quirkiness?

I like em. Rare Now. I think they're very similar to the Honda Concerto /Rover 400 of the era - with the same blacked out A-Pillars and tall angular greenhouse.     I also like those 'round like a pebble' Mazda 323s from around the same time. Which have dated really well.   And the saloons which I love for being about the most architypal 'sedan' shape ever. Was going to post some pics - but all the little code embed buttons are missing?!?!?!?! [edit - the buttons are back!] |

It just shows the difference between countries. Here, they're quite common. I'd probably pass at least 2 on my way to work that I know of.
My mate had one with the 4A-GE 20v swapped in from a later Japanese Levin, and it used to go quite well.

Plenty of them on the road over here in ireland. Never seen one to come with a 4age standard but they definitely came with a 4afe like the carina 11. Proper set of wheels, lowering and a splitter on the front bumper and you're away.

Available in Australia as a basic CS/CS-X with the carby twin cam 4afc and 4afe. Also available in SX guise with the 100kw smallport version of the 4age. The normal hatch was used in group A racing, but the Seca (as the liftback was called here) made it into Supertouring, I believe with a 3sge   |
