Well then, you lovely people. It's been a couple of days, but I come bearing news! So, you saw me add girth, well everyone wants a bit more length, don't they?! I applied the same method and gained 8" in the sides; Now, having a front spring is all well and good, but it needs to be mounted to something; Waaaaayyyyyy, it's standing there on all four wheels. All by itself. Don't they grow up quickly these days eh?! Moving along from that excitement, I needed something to actually mount the engine on so; And what's an engine without a gearbox behind it?!

Now, it's all well and good having motive force, but it's useless without direction is it not?! Having a desire to point the front wheels in a particular direction, I need a steering box of sorts. Hmmmm, I think this will do nicely; And a connecting link completes that part of the chain; And I'll leave you with an overview of the work so far;

Right then. It's update time! We decided that before doing anything else, I needed to get the body kind of mounted in it's finished spot and the seat in position. So, a little bent steel tube and we have a simple subframe with the body on top; A little 3/4" box section and we have a frame to mount the seat on; Like so; And these brackets support the rear of the body subframe; Hmmm, what could this frame be for? Ahh yes. Because battery for electric start. No pull start for this And that's where we are tonight.

Can I ask how you made the box section frame... Did you pie cut it and bend it. or check it into individual pieces? Any links to tutorials or how too would be awesome, I am planning on some box work soon and have been thinking the best way to get 45 degree angles.

The kick up in the rear of the main chassis rails were done by cutting a vee section out but leaving one side untouched. It just makes it easier to hold in place when lining up. You do need to be very accurate with the cutting though.

Ok then, It's been a few days cos other stuff happened, but I'm back with news! Having a body in it's rough final position and something to sit on, the next thing is to attach a directional control device. Or steering wheel But to do that I need a steering column of some description. A piece of 1" OD tube and a couple of brass bushes spun up in the lathe gave me this; A piece of 3/4" OD tube gave me this; A couple more pieces of tube and some hot stick action gives us this; An actual working steering column; Yup, I'd say that's just about where it needs to be; And a little video demonstrating the steering wheel action;

Now that is some challenge! Don't know the score any more in the UK, but can it be registered as something else? Tractor or summat? I'd love to see it with plates on.

Is it necessary to register mobility scooters in the UK? It could almost be classed as one of those at a large stretch of the imagination.

I think the mobility scooter approach may be compromised due to it being a petrol engine rather than electric. (ignoring the other obvious dissimilarities to a mobility scooter)
My other thought was to find a mower that has been registered and aquire the id from that, but it's a bit iffy.
I had wondered about the quad bike approach but not sure how I'd fair with that either tbh.
More research is needed though

I did think that when I wrote it, but tbh the chances of me finding the relevant gear to do it is so remote that it's insignificant anyway! lol

Now then, seeing as we have directional control, we need something for the feet to do. ie, pedals! In no particular order, I started with the clutch. So, some bending, cutting and welding had me this; Kinda looks like a pedal to me And a little something to attach the cable to; A piece of steel tube and a couple of brass bushes turned up; And pedal fitted in the bush. Just need to braze the tube into the chassis rail; Yup. That looks very much like a clutch pedal to me;
