A rare Ford Escort Mk2 RS2000 Base model with one registered keeper from new.
EQUIPMENT
Polyurethane front end incorporating four Cibie quartz halogen headlamps, front air dam, rubberised tail spoiler, twin bodyside coachline, RS2000 decals, black door mirrors, laminated windscreen, hazard warning flashers, heated rear window, separate fuel, water temperature and oil pressure gauges, padded sun visors, two-speed heater, aeroflow ventilation with eye ball vents. Factory Options; Recaro front seats with fishnet headrests, bronze tinted glass, Ford push button MW/LW radio.
EXTERIOR
This RS2000 finished in Venetian Red, (Code XSC-1136), looks amazing with a uniform deep glossy shine. The polyurethane droop snoot is straight and perfectly colour matched housing a set of four Cibie 60/55W quartz-halogen headlamps and correct Altissimo rear light clusters. Being the incredibly rare Base model the rear panel is colour coded and not satin black. The correct Sekurit glass is number plate etched and has a bronze tint as specified as an option and proven by the original purchase invoice when new. The colour coded pressed steel petrol cap and genuine Ford mud flaps are fitted. The underside is beautifully clean and will delight those wishing to exhibit. Stunning.
INTERIOR
Recaro high-back recliners with the fish-net headrests were factory fitted at a cost of £87.61 when new and are in remarkable condition finished in Chocolate Cloth, (Code P7). The door tops are exposed in body colour correct for Base models and beautiful Warm Black plastics only fitted from August 1979 models are pristine. The RS instrument panel houses fully functional gauges with bright orange needles and the heater fan works on both speed settings. Fine details such has the original warning sticker for the heated rear element and Ford labels on the seat belts are welcome sights. The supplying dealer rear window sticker is attached and the correct Pastel Parchment headlining is tight with no marks. The luggage compartment, as with the rest of the interior, is spotless. The colour code sticker attached to the rear panel is present as is the Ford jack in the hessian bag and wheel brace. Delightful.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
A matching numbers 1993cc SOHC engine is meticulously detailed for bonnet up exhibiting. The free-flowing cast-iron exhaust manifold with the legendary RS logo is present along with the small heat shield that protects the black siliconised spark plug leads. Performance figures of 108.2mph top speed and 0-60 in just 8.5 seconds are more than respectable, even for modern standards. The 4-speed Type E gearbox offers short precise gear changes.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
Genuine bright silver painted steel styled road wheels correct to the Base model are immaculate and shod in premium Uniroyal 195/55 R13 tyres. The spare is a Pirelli Cinturato. The correct Girling M16 callipers grip solid 247.5mm solid front discs and self-adjusting rear drums halt the car well.
HISTORY FILE
Manufactured in November 1979 this amazing example was supplied by Ford Rallye Sport Dealers, Reginald Tildesley Ltd, Wolverhampton, on the 26th March 1980. Only one registered keeper from new, a Mr Christopher John Charles, is recorded and the New Vehicle Purchase Invoice reveals a price paid of £5102.99. Factory options of Recaro seats priced at £87.61 and tinted glass at £26.02 were specified. Purchased by respected RS guru and proprietor of Riverbank Garage, Barry Tonge in 2011, this example formed a private collection and has wanted for nothing. A downsizing of this personal collection now means the car is available for a very lucky blue oval fanatic. All handbooks, instruction pamphlets, service book and RS supplements are included. One key operates all locks and the ignition and a full set are provided.
MOT July 2018, HPI Clear.
