Should any of this experimentation not work (I really hope it does, some awesome ideas here), it may be worth getting in touch with a Japanese auction buyer, quite a few of the big VIP names play with kei cars, often having massive grilles as a staple feature. See this example from DAMD ![](http://www.auto-acp2.com/pm_damd/img/impe/mc.jpg)

ummm...thinkin' head on! first couple of options that spring to mind for the mirrors are...#1 mount to a bracket in the same location then re-fit the plastic trim around the stem with a rubber grommet to take up the gap. #2 mount it in the forward hole with a piece of stainless steel behind to cover the rear holes and splice in another short piece of weather strip to hide the cut factory out?
tail end upgrade... not sure but loose the towel rail for sure. also avoid r5 reversing lights like the plague...the huge chunks I used gouge out of my hands when washing my grans five on the corners of those mouldings was horrific!!

Surely the rear wiper is going too?! Lights in the rear glass like I did on my cubes? ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170926/d3bafc6036be94a262960850e05f31c5.jpg) ![](https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20170926/e97f8f6f3fba6015066836c8ed397e4e.jpg)

As much as I liked your cube, freshandminty, Lil'One will not be that clean. German TÜV wouldn´t like the rear lights that way. And since my gf often complained about the missing rear wiper on our passat, I will rather not touch it on "her" car. It surely looks completely out of place on my cleaned up pic, but I will add some retro elements, like lights, handles, maybe some trim etc. so this will no longer look so "left over alone"... btw. I don´t know if the front bumper will stay, I especially hate those cutouts at the lower edge, but I want to do something with the round things where fog lights are supposed to be - but I will not add those. Been thinking of some correct sized stickers. Maybe Moon Eyes? Or KC Smileys? Something retro at least! Or what do you think? Ah I wondered how you’d get on with German regulations - so that smoothed image is a backdrop for us to add our own selection of lights etc? ![:)](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/smiley.png)

would the ascona grill not slice down the middle at the rear and be "persuaded" straighter??

I would have thought the height was about right once attached to the bonnet? maybe a whiff of headlight eyebrow to get the top line of the lights level with the top of the grill and ...bingo!

ok....thinking head on again... how about a small plate in the square recess to cover the four holes , a "spliced in " piece of window trim across the top , then mount the mirror as per original in the middle of the plate and pop a grommet in the round hole?
or go with your plan and just paint the trim silver?

I’d go with that too, although maybe a round side marker (side repeater wired to side lights) to fill the hole instead of a grommet?

The missus said no to those vw bus mirrors, she thinks they do not match the rest of the car with all its plastic. Well, maybe time will bring more chrome stuff and then, maybe later... ![:D](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/grin.png) Today I drilled three holes into the bonnet and this caused some naked tin, so I also did some preparational paint work... Should turn out flat, paint was still wet when I took the pic. Looks cool, so the trabant grill will go over the hole and the black?

That looks like it has worked really rather well. I think I would handle the round bits by cutting the top of the grille down to the height of the first bar, and moving the two grilles slightly closer together. You may be able to make up filler sections using offcuts of the centre part.
Definitely needs a comically massive suzuki badge in the centre
