Right so i have a c20let (minus turbo), manta sump and pick up, r27 box, chevette/kadett mounts, xe cams..... id estimate maybe 1400-1500 £ value wise...
I want a though
A small block chevy
I know nothing about them....
On the grape vine heard of a potential ls3 with box and ancilleries? What they worth? Power? Ease of wiring?
Any help or suggestions appreciated

You'll get a stock smog spec 350 for around £750-1000, less for a 305. How much to make power depends on how much you can do yourself. You can buy a kit of parts from Edelbrock or similar that give good gains, think they're $2-3000 for ~400HP

Sold my complete 350, for £2k 2 years ago. By complete I mean, took out of a running car and put in the recepiant and drove it away 5 hours later ( we stopped for a Braai) If you are buying one get the most complete one you can, a cheap SBC can become an expensive SBC if you have to start buying all the little bits and bobs. An easy and reliable 300bhp, they are simple and bullet proof. LS3 - buy this if you find one. Make sure you get the ECU, harness, throttle pedal and controller. You will need an electric fuel pump and various other bits and bobs. There is lots of help on LS1tech.com about how to wire etc. As for price, if you want to PM me I can probably give you an idea of if you are in the right area. Again make sure it is LS3 and complete... 430hp out of the box and if you want to add Boooooost make sure you check out Sloppy mechanics on YouTube. Matt is the King of low cost power. An LM7 is still 300-320hp stock and is a cam and long tube headers and a tune away from 400, the above mentioned Matt has just made 500+ out of a 4.8.... If you pass on it let me know LS3 let me know! P.

Is it worth suggesting something like the BMW M60/M62 or Toyota 1uz-fe V8's?
Not quite American iron, but fairly modern quad cam engines which are available fairly cheaply (still in a car) with decent tuning potential.

Thanks guys - the lad sold the ls3 for £1800 with everything needed 😞
I have looked at the 1ufze but they are wide and i think heders will be an issue.
I want around 400bhp plus so the ls3 would be ideal
