Can't see the point in one of these at all - a roof tent for a Beetle?! Just buy a tent instead! Anyone heavier than a child would probably make the whole thing collapse + nacker the car in the process. What other crazy accessories have you seen?

Plymouth Arrow (Mitsubishi Celeste) tent I've slept in a Mitsubishi Celeste, and believe me having a tent attached to it would've made it no better!

Saab Toppola camper backs - just remove the tailgate and rear seat and you're done: With added 'rear end trailer' goodness 9000s too. Not sure if it's exactly an accessory but the factory Panda Van back end is a pretty neat add-on. Just remove tailgate and bolt on. Factory ones have plastic side windows with locks. Super cool on this mint 4x4

Holden did this as well with the Torana "Hatch Hutch." Genuine option/accessory.

Right, seems like I unearthed a secret tent fetish on RR, but to move on here's another questionable but of unnecessary tat - the bug/fly deflector! What's the point in this?? Unless the fly is travelling right towards the car in the middle of the bonnet it will not be deflected!

You may find, and I'm clutching at straws here, that due to the aerodynamic properties of such a beautiful piece of tat such as this, the the wind is deflected around and above the windscreen, therefore deflecting the bugs too... my guess is that for that theory to work however, the car would have to be moving far faster than it ever could in reality!

I always quite like Ford's O21C concept with a boot like a kitchen pan-drawer. I think someone in the design team at Ford obviously had the Corgi Whizzwheels Adams 4 Engined Drag-Star toy as a child!

The in car record player. Apparently the stylus arm spring had to be so tight to stop the thing jumping, you would only get half a dozen plays before your record was worn out The coat hanger aerial. These used to be absolutely everywhere. Can't remember the last time I saw one The magnetic spare key safe. Ironically most of the cars that would have had one of these would probably have been able to be started with a teaspoon handle

The Bug Deflector worked very well on my Phase 2 Vanguard over 40mph. Whereas these flew off and whistled past my ear at 55mph.
