hi, thinking of selling my cortina estate. its a 1979 mk4, and nowadays a rare car. its fitted with a 2 litre pinto, and is a project that needs a final push to get it back on the road.
basically when i purchased it it had sat un moved in a garage since the '80's, so the mileage, around 70 odd thousand, i believe would be correct, and the straight and solid bodywork, backs this up. i have only had to do minor welding repairs to the rear arches and have treated the estate to a full respray, ( by that i mean the lot- engine bay, inside, outside, doors-off etc. ) in its original, and much desired original ford vanition red. i have fitted new rubbers, chrome window trims and weather strips etc.
the interior is very clean and tidy, bar the drivers seat what is split and tatty on the backrest.
i have just purchased a load of parts to try to finish the car off, new battery, spark plugs, ht leads, bulbs, dizzy cap, wipers, new key cut, bonnet release cable, nos rear light lenses, nos grille, and a nice new red ford grille badge.
so, whats left, well the engine i haven't tried to start yet due to not having battery etc, so that needs a little tinkering to get it running, i can also see its going to need a core plug, but at the end of the day its a pinto and shouldn't be too much trouble. then the bonnet release cable needs fitting, as the old one has snapped, the the drivers seat wants replacing or repairing. obviously i have no idea how the electrics or breaks or fuel lines etc are as i have focused on getting the bodywork up to scratch first. there may be a few other bits i have missed but thats whats standing out at me!
i have a set of steel wheels with the car (knackered tyres), but as you will see in the pics, i have fitted for the time being my set of alloys from my Capri, these are almost immaculate wheels and good tyres, to be honest i would prefer to keep these wheels but if the new owner wants them then so be it. i do have a set of new black alloys, mini-lite design with new tyres on them, so when i get some more pics to add up here, i will fit them up as i would be happier to sell the cortina with these ones instead.
i don't realy have much paper history with this car, but i do have a few tax discs, showing when it was last on the road.
i realy would like to see this project through, but I'm only advertising it as I'm running out of undercover storage now, and have another project arriving imminently.
i do have more, better pics coming soon, but here is a few for you to get an idea..... any questions please do get in touch, and feel free to make an offer or arrange to view if you want..... for any potential buyers- i can arrange any required transport for the estate....
thanks, matt
