For the past two years since lowering my bus every time I've pulled onto my drive my side skirts have scraped on the edging block between pavement and the drive. The pavement slopes up and the drive slopes down so the edging block is at the peak, like so ... Since I fitted my sub and enclosure on Saturday, which has added considerable weight and dropped the front a few mm it no longer scrapes. I would have thought it would scrape more if anything or does the fact that the front is now lower and the overall ground clearance is more of a straight line, potentially positive rake make it more suited to clearing the peaked ground? Just curious really, thanks in advance.

Did you change tyre and wheel size when you got your new wheels? apart from the wheels being 0.5" wider no change - and it still scraped after the wheel change - only stopped this week since the sub has gone in.

Then I can only imagine it has added enough weight to unload (?) your rear axle. Not as much as in the following pic, but mildly?! And in the other direction of course. So if you ever should feel like missing that scraping, add some serious clarion woofer! 32" btw. That sub reminds me of the start of back to the future lol.

Could it be that you just can't hear it over the sub?

You've ground enough of a channel out to prevent catching?

You've ground enough of a channel out to prevent catching? Coincidence that it's happened at the same time as adding the sub?

It would only have this effect if the centre of mass was beyond the axle, as it'll act like a lever. In the above example, the load is behind the axle, making the rear axle the pivot, lifting the front of the car. With the woofer in the middle of the Elgrand, the weight will compress both ends, one more than the other depending on which its nearer to/has the lower spring rate

I could certainly see where your thinking was. fr€$h&m1nt¥, if you can get a side photo of the moment it would normally scrape from the side we might be able to see how the van is sitting relative and get a better idea.

Scraping point used to be the skirt around where it's over the peak in this photo...

Is the sub over to the left of the van and compensates for the weight of the driver or even tilts the van over to the left more ?

Is the sub over to the left of the van and compensates for the weight of the driver or even tilts the van over to the left more ? It's central from left to right but just behind the front seats so about 2/3rds to front. So with it being more left than me that could be the answer.

Did it always scrape or just with all the three (well, two and a half) of you on board? Always scraped with just me on board, getting back from work and going to work every day - the only place it's ever scraped - apart from the exhaust silence on some speed bumps. It had been so annoying I'd considered air just for that slight moment each day, of course the lack of scrape now means I can go lower at the front on the coilovers until it scrapes again.
