A friend of mine who I help out with his cars, is thinking of getting the bell housing 3D scanned. The back story to this is that the clutch on his Lancia 037 rally car exploded and took out the bell housing. He has a spare which we will fit to the car. Replacements are hard and expensive to find. He would like to look into having some more made. I thought maybe there might be some people on here who either have some first hand experience with this or who could point me in the direction of people/companies who could help. Many thanks Below is the actual car....

Based near cheltenham. If they do a proper job I'm sure posting it to them won't be a problem. Do you have any contact details for them?

If you have that much money for those type of cars your better off just sending the thing to a transmission manufacturer like Quaife.
Otherwise you have to have it scanned , then get some one to cast it , then get someone to machine it .
Better off just letting them do it start to finish , less ball ache , less time , more than likely less cost .

I hadn't thought of going direct to a manufacturer like that. I wonder if they would be interested in doing a low volume batch though? One way to find out I guess.....

Yes getting it scanned is only the start. I have recently found out about 3d printed wax patterns so it might be better to contact a company who do casting or even someone who could machine it but have contacts who could supply a casting. I will find out the name of the company anyway.
I wonder who made the parts for the original ?

Also what he needs to do is work out if there is a market for them , and perhaps get 10 made to sell so his are effectively free.

Thanks, had a look at their site, look like good people. Will talk to them on monday.
Yes there are quite a few 037s around so making a few extra to cover costs/make it more cost effective will be looked into.

Steveg, I'm not sure who made the original. I know that the box itself is the same as what is in the GT40, with it being a trans axle design. I imagine it could have been either lancia or arbath who will have had a hand in the manufacture of lots of the original bits.

Think the box is a modified Getrag , again done by either Abarth or Lancia .
Might be worth looking for similar companies like Xtrac as well .
