***SOLD***
Hi folks,
I bought this recently to tide me over while my 740 diesel was resprayed, probably planning to break it afterwards. That said, I think it's not actually so bad, so I thought I'd offer it up for sale to see if anyone wants to take it on.
It's a mid-spec 1991 Volvo 940 turbodiesel saloon, with 4-speed automatic transmission. Less than 116k miles from new, which is barely run in for one of these.

Hi folks,
I bought this recently to tide me over while my 740 diesel was resprayed, probably planning to break it afterwards.
Good bits:
- It has MOT until May 2018, and previous MOTs have shown little cause for concern
- Almost everything seems to work.
- It's mega comfy, as all 700/900 Volvos are. Surprisingly quiet at 70MPH on the motorway, and very easy to drive
- It's got a reasonable spec for 25+ years old - heated seats and heated mirrors (untested, it's been warm lately), central locking, (working) sunroof.
- Bits for these are cheap as chips.
- Straight 6 diesel engine (shared with the VW LT vans) makes it surprisingly economical - my 740 estate (same engine, manual gearbox) has averaged 44MPG over the last 15k miles (mostly longer runs).
- Clean interior - a bit sun faded and one burn to driver's seat bolster. Inside it smells like a clean old Volvo rather than wet dog.
- HUGE boot
- No real rust, as is usual for these
- Previous owner told me the cambelt was done in the last 1000 miles, but by the MOT history that was sometime in the last 4-5 years
- Loads of old MOTs, 3 keys and original handbook
Bad bits:
- It's not going to win any beauty contests. This car has a serious case of lacquer peel. The roof, bonnet and bootlid are all quite terrible. That's why I took the photos from low down.
- I've just noticed the coolant in the expansion tank has some oil in it. This doesn't smell of head-gasket-failure, and is quite likely to be the oil-water heat exchanger, which is a common failure point which most people bypass.
- Both left-hand speakers seem to not be working
- Would benefit from an oil change/minor service
