Hi all,
I've been offered a free Peugeot 406. It's currently registered in Ireland so I'd need to import it into the UK. I've checked the DVSA website and the procedure looks straightforward (if a little tedious). Has anyone done this? Did it all go smoothly?
Also, the car currently has a KPH speedo. I'm told that a sticker over the glass showing MPH will do to make it UK road legal. Is this correct?
Thanks!

But make sure you obtain the Logbook. You will need to MOT it however as a form of approval. On top of that you will probably need a sales invoice. Even if it is for a quid etc. You will also need to act on the NOVA fast unless you want additional expense.

The NOVA is something I'd definitely read up on. In theory you shouldn't have to pay any duty on the car.
When I got my car registered via the DVLA albeit it's a Japanese import I gave them the following:
-Export Certificate ; this can count for the logbook if you don't have one. -NOVA Confirmation number ; someone else imported it and dealt with this. -MOT certificate ; this was done using the VIN number. -Sales invoice ; where I bought the car from. -£55 registration fee -A letter ; it only summarised what I was given them like above it probably makes their lives easier as to what you are presenting them ; it's a check sheet in a way for you and them.
Another thing. Photocopy everything.

I don't think the speedo in KM is a problem. My daily is a LHD Peugeot 405 Estate that came from Spain 4-5 years ago. Not sure when the NOVA thing came in but as mentioned I had it tested on the chassis number. The MOT system here has the option of recording 'mileage' in km's so I've never had a problem. I paid the £55 registration fee. Post 96 cars needed a certificate of conformity (or something like that) but my 405 was older and came with good docs from Peugeot, Spain. The sales invoice was needed.
My local testing station questioned the lack of side repeaters (continental cars of the time didn't seem to have them?) but I get away with it, I would assume, as it came out of the factory like it.

If people wish I am happy to write a guide on importing a car and how to deal with the forms etc. I can even make a flow chart if you wish.
The info is all on the DVLA's site for the best part but I can appreciate it is not the easiest to follow.

that would be useful, especially as not every country is the same with respects of a non native buying a vehicle.
