So. My trusty (and fave car I ever owned) Octavia VRS has, well, she's poorly.
Now, the illness manifested as a slipping clutch. Stepping out of the car, I could smell gearbox oil. Looked under the car, she's done a widdle on the floor. Tried to pop the bonnet, the cable snapped. The odo reads 222000 miles. There's a knocking from the passenger front. All that said, she has been super reliable and sailed through every MOT, and I know that it will be a wishbone, a seal and a clutch that needs changing.
So, once I get her into the workshop, and on the ramps, I will assess the damage and whether or not it's worth saving. In the event she needs to retire, I need to get on to thinking about replacements. (I am tempted to buy an engine and gearbox and build up a beasty tuned 4 pot that chucks out something over 240bhp to drop in there).
Must be an estate
must have (or be easy to get) a tow bar
must have some grunt (more than the VRS, which is 180bhp - bonus points if it north of 300).
Must be reliable (it's going to be a tow horse and parts hauler),
Must have reasonable cost for parts
Nowt too fancy, that I can spin spanners on without needing a twelfty million pounds dealer-only electronic dangleberry dinglehopper defuckulator just to change the photon chuckers.
Oh, and if I can avoid it, no chuffin CAN-bus
Aaaaaand of COURSE, something pretty cool!
My initial thoughts:
Another VRS
Audi S6 V8
Scooby Legacy
But none of those are really retro... Trying to be inspired here! So... hit me with your ideas!
