I waited a good while to find a short bumpered, tax free 2 door Toledo in nice condition, and also the added wolf in sheep's clothing appeal of it being fitted with a 2 litre (injected) Dolomite Sprint engine! 5 years later, this car never got as much use as I liked to have given it and after keeping it maintained and not the pleasure of driving it, it really needs to go to someone who will get more enjoyment and use out of it than myself!
The previous owner who had done the conversion to the Sprint engine, fitted the fuel injection system from a Ford Orion if I remember correctly. There was also the mention of a fast road cam. The car is also fitted with lowered Spax suspension and Stainless Steel Sports exhaust. With this set up the car sits well and sounds great! It is also fitted with a working overdrive gearbox for 3rd and 4th gears.
The car was also resprayed in his ownership and paintwork still holds up very well now. There are a few small cosmetic imperfections in a couple of places starting to show up but was mentioned how solid the car was when it was up on the ramps for it’s MOT. There is light damage to the front near side wing (pictured) where it had scraped a wall when reversing into our drive (do’h!). There is some left over paint to go with the car. Hopefully with the remaining paint should make an easy fix for someone.
Recent new parts include: Fuel pump, fuel filter, reconditioned front brake calipers, new Lumenition electronic ignition and ballast resistor.
The car is in overall very good condition inside and out, in keeping with the low miles of the shell. The original steering wheel will also be supplied with the car.
Negatives of the car are few and most notably the car has had a history of cutting out when driving. Most of the list of recent new parts was an effort to rectify this. Because of the lack of time I get with the car as it has been stored at my parents, I’ve not been able to use the car recently except when I took it for it’s MOT where it performed flawlessly and was a blast to get back behind the wheel. With said mods it’s a lively little thing and hope someone is able to give it the attention and use it deserves!
Also The electric fan is controlled via a switch inside the cabin but this is currently not working but have not had time to test/rectify. The cars temperature sits fine unless standing for a good while.
After a test drive this weekend it appears the fault still remains with the car as it did cut out on me.It does seem to struggle more when warm and can smell quite rich when trying to start from warm. It seems there’s no real pattern as when I first purchased the car I did struggle a few miles down the road but upon starting up again it drove the 150+ miles back fine! I have tried as mentioned above to trouble shoot the most obvious, there can’t be too much left to try! The car really is solid and lovely to drive and the injection makes for an instant and very solid idle, quick throttle response and smooth power delivery and I think the next owner will not be disappointed!
