Has anyone done it and can comment?
Delivery via shiply seems to be about a grand as it couldn't be driven.
It appears a Tagliandi certificati is the equivalent of a v5 but I'm sure like me your Italian is worse than rusty so if anyone has any more info it'd be gratefully received.

I notice you got the word 'rusty' in your post on cars from Italy. That's what might be termed a Freudian slip!

I looked into this last year, quite a faff, but I was planning on driving the car back which complicated things. Sales have to be registered with a notary, in Italy, if the value is over something like €1000 as I recall. The seller will probably keep the reg plate as taxes and stuff are associated with it. I'd be wary of sending money for a car I hadn't seen to a seller i don;t know and relying on a shipping company to deliver it. But I'm a big girl's blouse, maybe you're not. Why not rent a little flatbed and collect yourself, have a little holiday out of it (and see the car first hand), plus paying cash in Italy, face to face, is more like to get the rules bent in your favour. Some stuff on this thread; www.expatforum.com/expats/italy-expat-forum-expats-living-italy/56486-advice-needed-buying-car-italy-taking-back-uk.htmlLet us know how you get on, good luck

I thought of this last month when I was in Sorrento. The motorway from Naples to Sorrento was littered with scrapyards. Some of the cars there would have many a Retro Rider reaching for a tissue box. I a couple of minis scrapped that were better than the one I'm doing at the moment. Everywhere I've been in Italy you just fall over classics.

Thanks for the replies guys and that Expat sites info is very useful indeed.
I've been costing it up and to get over there, stay for a night and be back the next day would be a minimum £500 (+2x days away!) so this is a tough one to get going with (especially if the car turns out to be a turd), plus £1k to get it back. The arranging the payment is the biggest headache as I'd want to pay for it while the guy is waiting to flatbed it, otherwise I could kiss goodbye to all those Euros.
Maybe the Italians aren't generally as in love with classics as the Brits hence why so many of them languish in scrappies? Or maybe they just last longer before they end up there due to less aggressive weather?

I got told off for making an anal joke on another thread about exactly this.
The consensus was "Don't"...
