Oh and and a trick I picked up from a fellow Farina owner on here I believe. How to mark the holes in the panel...... Make what I believe is called a strap duplicator A stud to fit into the panel in the door, and a hole to mark the drill position Put it in place on the door panel.... A close up shows you where to mark the hole

If you'd described that to me I would have expected it to be far too industrial looking to suit the car. As it is, it looks right at home, especially the boot panel. Very nice work.

My Missus is kind, and lets me mark out on the conservatory floor without batting an eyelid But her cruel side has been revealed, as she now says I can make her a new draining board for the kitchen !!

you weren't tempted to delete for a cleaner look? I didn't really consider it, they are part of the car. The same ashtrays are in the backs of the front seats too.

whats the hardboard for to back the ally panels? The hardboard was the original vinyl covered pane stripped of the covering. I was using them as a basic template for the ali as they were kicking around.

I must admit I thought the ali panels would look rather pants when you said that was what you were going to do - but I'll eat my thoughts - they look rather good indeed!

Ah right, I wasn't sure if you were going to back the ally panels, Ive had a few cars with ally panels and they can be a bit noisy and cold

So there I was colour sanding the doors. It made sense to me to do that before refitting the door handles. But it seems colour sanding isn't my strongest suit, and I was struggling. I used a bit of black guide coat over the grey, and that worked well. But the black would have been almost invisible over the maroon, so I though a quick mist of Upol grey primer would work well. But the can almost exploded, and put great gobs of paint onto the panel. I let it dry and tried to block it down, but it had gone on so thick it had "burnt" through into the top coat. Nothing more for it than to block the area back and re-apply primer/filler and top-coat With soft paint on the car, I decided on a garage tidy/rework. I never seem to put my grinders away, so they are always clogging up the place. So, time to build a tool board for the commonly used fab tools. I'm particularly proud of the plumbing fittings, that hold the marker pens. Extra shelf as a bonus too. I tidy up of tools etc in my cupboards found all this stuff I never use - put to one side for a car boot sale. I was storing household paint and decorating supplies in the garage - no wonder it was rammed - I moved all of this to the shed. All these toolboxes in the middle of the garage meant I had no room to work on anything big The freed up space meant the ugly green cabinets can go, and everything else shuffled up. I was also able to get the pillar drill out of a corner , and now it can be used easier. I've since put the linisher on castors, so I can push it out of the way if necessary. Yep - happy with that. More car progress very soon

One of the reasons I'd lost my MoJo was numberplates. I took advice to find the best, and spent the money at Tippers Vintage plates. Hmmmm. Wasn't happy. The plates were badly bowed and would need manual bending to get them flat. The pressing wasn't great with distortion around the letters, but probably acceptable. But the paint - not good, plenty of flaws. I initially had some exchanges with them - which were largely unsatisfactory. They suggested supply a bare pair that I could paint myself !! I had to sort it out a couple of weeks later, as my father fell ill. But now they ignored my emails, and wouldn't answer the phone. Life is too short to deal with cr@ppy suppliers. So I gave up and just bolted them on. Rant over.

I'm currently trying to bolt as much stuff back on as possible. This project is sprawling all over my garage/loft and I need to be a bit tidier and know what I've got/need. So, this rather lovely Notek reversing light has been bolted on Getting power to the tailgate for this and the number plate lamps was tricky, as there was never any power in the tailgate from the factory. The Russians struggled too, and came up with this rather lack-lustre solution - which I spotted in the Riga Motor Museum I tried all sorts of grommets etc, but wasn't happy with any of them. Then I stumbled across the ideal of using the connector from a van sliding door. A little recess in the tailgate, and some faffing around and we have this One contact for the number plate lights, the other for the reversing lamp. The earths I could get through the body. The Notek lamp worked, but came with a bulb that seems to be NLA. I wanted to convert to LED so the reduced current wouldn't burn out the switch on my gearbox. On the bottom you'll see the Notek original parts. On the top - an LED fitting and a small sink plug....... The LED fitting screwed to the original bulb holder with no modifications. But the sprung rear cap wasn't going to work at all. Much head scratching looking for a circle of thick rubber roughly the right dimensions - saw me with a sink plug !! A little trimming, and drilling of three holes saw me with something quite close to the original cap. A bit of heatshrink and a female spade from the car hooks it all up. Does it work..... Only thing on the car that does at the moment
