Taking a bit of inspiration from reading Mr grizz s threads on here I thought I would share my latest creation. Now please bear in mind this is my first ever attempt at this so it is a massive learning curve for me. Now my 12 year old son plays guitar and he has done since he was six, he has two acoustics a base and a nice Stratocaster rep that's his pride and joy, he's actually pretty good now too. So after watching a certain SeaSick Steve I thought it would be a good idea to create a hub cap guitar. Now I have a Ukelele but the talent he has does not come from me as I'm absolutely useless with that let alone a Stratocaster but I though what the hell I'll have a go. So after a trip to Newark Autojumble I bought a pair of Moggy hub caps for a pound each and a mate at work, who's a part time joiner supplied me with a couple of nice pieces of maple. I then chopped the hub caps about with my angle grinder and sanded the maple down, I then lashed it all together in a guitar/ banjo shape with a couple of inchx10 wood screws. Parts were then ordered from China via the Bay of E.

So all the parts arrived and I could crack on with the assembly but with this being a bit rough and a bit rock n roll I thought I would add my own little tribute to the late great Jonny Burnette who I'm a bit of a fan of. After the first attempt at fitting the strings to the tail piece the wood screws I used to hold the wooden block on the rear end came out under the tension so I had to redesign as I went along with a couple of 10mm bolts. I ordered a cheap wiring harness but I then realised at a later date this was going to be useless, I hadn't fitted an electric pick up ( told you I was winging it!) so I have had to bodge that bit by wrapping a lead around the tail piece to get some sound to the amp. This will probably be rectified on version two (I've got enough maple to make two more). So here she is, the Moggy Minor four string Hill Billy hubcap banjo/guitar type thing (version one). All that was left now was for it to be tested.

And it works..... Well my son can just about squeeze Seven Nation Army by The White Stripes out of it so I'm putting it down to a success. He seems happy anyway. So totalling up the cost- Two hubcaps £2 Tail piece. £2.96 inc postage Machine Heads £1.72 inc postage Frets. £1.10 inc postage Wiring harness. £3.29 Inc postage Strings (2 sets) £2.00 inc postage ( I kept snapping them) Maple for fret board £ one bottle of Rioja Total.... £13.07. (Plus about £6 for the Rioja). Roll on version two.
