Early days yet but I'm looking to put the Sprint up for sale. This is such a cool, rare and capable car, the amount of people that come up to me at petrol stations and talk to me about it is bizarre! Unfortunately I can't help but want something a bit more modern and quicker (a DC2 Integra Type-R to be exact), and combined with garaging costs and inconvenience (I haven't got a garage at home so the car is 10mins away), and the constant level of care a classic requires I'm looking to move on a little sooner than planned.
Build thread is here:
forum.retro-rides.org/thread/184669/dolomite-sprint-restomod-driving-photos?page=7&scrollTo=2313957
But main points are:
1974 Dolomite Sprint in very rare Sapphire Blue - 4 speed manual with overdrive, 69,000 miles shown on odometer (recent MOT history shows this to be correct, I cannot confirm for any further back than that). Early car so has some nice features such as a brass coolant expansion bottle rather than the cheap and nasty later plastic ones.
Fully restored using a doner shell in 2011 by a very highly regarded member of the Dolomite Club (his restorations are considered to be second to none). A link to to the thread on the forum can be provided to show the amount of work that went into it.
Further remedial work carried out in my ownership by Restoshack to a couple of areas that were starting to rust (photos in build thread, again nothing but top quality work here)
No patching/welding on floor pans, all rust free.
Body is very very good, much better than other Dolomites I have seen at shows. There are some small imperfections as you would expect with a vehicle of this age.
Mechanically also very good and very reliable. I have done over 5000 miles in my ownership, including multiple trips to Devon and Retro Rides Gathering where it ran the hill multiple times and then drove straight home again without any dramas. The only occasional flaw is a rattling from the drivetrain somewhere after a long drive (2hrs +) but this never affects the ability to drive it.
Interior is good, all the wood was refurbed when restored and everything works as it should except for a RHR door outer handle that is tempermental about operating. The seats are all in great condition. The only area letting it down slightly is the carpeting around the gear lever which is now showing a bit of wear.
Main modifications are:
GAZ adjustable shocks all round
Luminition electronic ignition
Compomotive 13x6 wheels with Yokohama tyres
Stainless steel 'sports' exhaust
De-bumpered
Polybushed front subframe
Modern Halogen bulb headlamps
Momo Prototipo steering wheel
Recaro drivers seat (matching passenger seat will be provided if required/wanted)
Larger capacity radiator
'Trackerjack' upgraded front brakes using Sierra calipers and VW Golf vented discs (*currently being fitted as standard RHF caliper has failed)
**All original cosmetic parts including bumpers, seat, wheels and steering wheel are included in the sale, all are in very good condition and would be a mornings work to put back to standard**
Pricing is difficult as the ones that often come up for sale are in very poor condition and concours condition ones I believe have sold for over £10,000. As mentioned above I'm currently fitting new brakes to it so would be available for viewing etc from early June if anyone is interested. Once this is the case I'll start to advertise elsewhere but I'm not in any major rush to sell. If I still own it by the start of July it'll be coming on a roadtrip around the Scottish coast so the mileage will rise by about 2000 miles!
I've probably forgotten loads as I'm typing this up at work but will be happy to field any questions/requests for information that I have forgotten!
Thanks,
Luke
