could a kind soul please measure their dipstick please? not the sort of thing you get asked every day but let me explain. the other day when checking the oil in my 106 (tu engine??) the rubbery top decided to part company with the rest of the dipstick. I replaced it with the top bung bit off a Suzuki one I had to hand and while I am fairly confident that I got he length right I would like to make sure for the sake of not lunching the engine. sods law said that my local yards had nothing the same , so I couldn't simply replace it. I could do with the measurement from the bottom lip of the bit where it sits at the top of the tube to the "max" level mark. muchly thanks.

If it's any use the metal filter engines take 3.5 litres of oil and the plastic filter ones 3-3.25 litres, should you want to drain, check and refill.

I know it was spot on when I changed it but that's a bit drastic just for checking the level. not had it long enough yet to know if it likes to sup a drop or not. it certainly doesn't leak ANY , ive never seen a dryer outside of an engine that's 20 years young!

I know it was spot on when I changed it but that's a bit drastic just for checking the level. not had it long enough yet to know if it likes to sup a drop or not. it certainly doesn't leak ANY , ive never seen a dryer outside of an engine that's 20 years young! That's good news, usually they leak oil on the front corner of the head behind the alternator, the high pressure oil way seal on the gasket fails usually. Not serious really, You can have the heads off these in half hour at the side of the road if it does go but great that it isn't leaking. I do like these little things  |
