I've got a GTM Libra that could use a little help in the water pumping department, in traffic it will start running warm unless I hold the throttle at 2000 rpm. I'd like to plumb in an electric pump that would work intermittently from a thermostatic switch to boost the circulation when the temperature starts to creep up. I can find any number of heater booster pumps that fit in the 15mm heater hoses (and I've already bought one), but nothing that will fit the 28-30mm hoses for the main runs to the radiator. I don't really want to go to the expense of a Davies Craig pump if I can get a Bosch unit from a production car for a fraction of the cost. Any ideas? A pic of the beast..

Most of the new Bmws all use electric pumps.....that fail sooner or later. A lot of the control gubbins are built in,inside it,and that's the bit that normally packs in. You should be able to get one for next to nothing, ditch the controller and just use the motor and pump section...😊

I've got one of the heater ones - it makes a noticeable difference to engine temps when it's turned on.

Most of those have them in the heater circuits, I've seen the BMW ones but they tend to be more expensive that a Davies Craig pump

Would you be masking an issue?

Would you be masking an issue? I can't mask the fact that it's a K series (160vvc). Cooling is pretty much always an issue when they are rear mounted. If I leave the car to idle the temp at the head will gradually increase to an indicated 100deg, pick the revs up and the temperature falls to normal again. What I'm wanting to do is replicate that increase in revs using a thermostatic switch to control a pump just to give the circulation a boost when the car is sat at idle. I used a PRTT setup on the last GTM which left it very slow to warm up, though I may have to go there again with this one.

Can you change the pulley size? The pump runs off the cam belt, plus the engine will rev to over 7k and the VVC final drive is low geared so the revs are usually high in comparison to a lot of cars, I don't want to cause problems at the other end of the revs scale by driving the pump faster than it wants to go.

I think one of the heater ones would flow enough to do that. Plumbing it in might require thinking about as you really want it in parallel with your existing pump
