I've left some rust on the scuttle panel of my Escort mk3 for a little too long. I'm just about to take it in to have it cut out/replaced and re-sprayed. Seems like the inner passenger wing has gone a little soft above the wheel arch too... I know its all a bit vague but, any ideas of price i should be looking at for this kind of job ? Didn't look to bad from the top (just bubbles either side of the wipers) but, just took these photos underneath and i've started to worry. i'm guessing all this rust is related :/ although its just a small piece thats gone soft. How long is a piece of string I'm afraid . More than £100 ,less than £1000.
You just do not know how much people charge , what there quality of work is, how far they will go or how fast they work.
And you have to factor in painting , and if they find more do they not bother doing that or do they add to the bill ?

I know what you mean. i guess its a dumb question really. Just feel a bit despondent with it. Bought it 3 years ago for a decent amount then spent £1300 on welding/spraying after about 6 month of having it. I'm going to go back to the same guys but ,realistically i think they did me a deal first time around.
Just have to wait and see i guess. I've lost my garage now so should probably get all the rust they find done if I'm going to keep it.

Yeh. Impossible to say. Its more a case of finding someone who CAN do it than finding the cheapest. If they ask more then you want to pay then it's game over. 90% of cars I come across require an almost total strip down to end up with anything that comes close to a 'rust free' non bodged shell and it doesn't come cheap. Expecially if you can't do the majority of the donkey work yourself.

If your wing umbolts it might be worth taking it off to have a look underneath.

Took it up and they said it needs a new scuttle panel and some welding behind the dashboard. Also they'll look at that inner wing (panels on Escorts are welded unfortunately) So windscreen and dash out anyway, just need to face the facts its going to be a bit pricey. They did great work on it a few years ago and i've left it as long as i can! beats a new car right!? My girlfriend paid a fortune for a service on a toyota aygo recently... old photo before new wheels

Weld on wings on a Mk3 which is a bit of a pain (my Manta deteriorated in the same area and bolt on wings made it a much simpler repair)
That's a lovely 3 door Mk3, definitely get it sorted, well worth the repair. Any RR tinbashers near Manchester who could do you a good price?

If you are happy with the work stick with them.

It will come in handy even if you never use it

As said it is not a question that can be answered on a forum. I mean... My Volksrod retrorides.proboards.com/thread/193895/juju-roof-chopped-turbocharged-volksrod - that needed a small patch about the size of a 50p piece welding, and looked what happened when I started looking at it  Once you start to chase and cut back you really never, ever know where it will end. There are lots of good welders out there and lots of bad ones, you are leaping into the unknown I'm afraid.

Was it a budget limit on your part?

Chris Contact Fireflyspeedshop on here, Kristian is a decent guy and turns out some nice work. He is now based over Wigan way so not too far from Manchester.

I'm merseyside and could do it for you Have had a few s1 rs turbo and mk3 and it's pretty common to rot near there
Word of warning tho new scuttle are very hard to come by unless they have started knocking them out again They used to also just do the end pieces a while back ,not sure if they are still available tho
Either way good luck with it and let me know if anything I can do to help mate
