Just an idea. Following on from my Xantia comment on the autoshite thread then finding a pic of a nicely modified one (IMO) on'tweb, I was wondering how much machinery is out there modified that you are unlikely to see modified in the UK because 1) They were not overly popular sales wise here when current and 2) Nobody has really thought too much about modifying them. How about the XM? Any more of the type?

You don't see many 156s anymore. Ive probably been living in a cave but I cant recall seeing much in the way of modified ones either. Even if there are, sod it, this one is a bit cool and worth posting up. Id roll in that all day long.

Audi A2 - you see the odd one with black alloys but they're too hard to modify (alu spaceframe body, no bodykits, few mechanical uprgrades possible) apart from remapping the TDis and fitting better shocks. Shame, cos they're light as hell and really stiff - could be a great pocket rocket with a 5 pot TT engine Picasso You never see modified ones, probably because they are the most horrible appliance-car ever made (could be improved if they'd just painted the top of the door-frames black) Volvo V40 You never see these with any hint of mods. Shame as they could probably look pretty good. Renault 5 Oh wait.

Off the shelf coilovers are cheap as they platform share. Even bolt-on air ride is available. Wheels are mk4 golf PCD so tons of choice. Theres nothing really stopping anyone doing it. V40s do get done too, but generally by the same people who modify vectras, so they're all gash. There's no reason for them to be though, coilovers are cheap for em and they're a great PCD too, tons of wheel choice. A bit of euro smoothing and they'd be cool. What is comes down to is 99.95% of people people won't spend a grand plus modifying a bland 500 quid car to be cool, they'd just spend the money on a car that's cooler to start with. Oh and there's already a fairly cool Picasso on hydros in the U.K.

I'm thinking Fiat Marea... It's maybe a bit quirky looking, but trim off all the barbs, like for instance to roof bars, add wheels, and maybe drop it, and viola... Winner! Maybe!

The Austin 1100/1300 and all it's badge engineered relations. They weren't fashionable when new compared to the Mini. I think they were generally regarded as a bit of a grannies car so very few people would have chosen them over an Escort when such things were still cheap and plentiful. Terminal rot took care of most of them in the meantime. This is one of the few good ones I've seen, obviously built for racing.

You'd have a job modifying one of these in a way someone would notice: Even the interesting addition of the front, er, spoiler, looks like it could be factory LOL

To be fair, it's a hybrid so does have a petrol engine as well, unless it's the v8 rwd one.

A lot of potential in these. I knew a geezer in the '80s who had one that looked like a grandpa car but mechanically was Cooper S spec plus a bit. That thing gave a lot of new cars and a few old V8s a fright.
