The last time i stripped a car i rang the scrapyard and they picked it up Before you strip it you could call one and see what they would do If they're an authorised ELV place give them the V5, and if they're not declare it SORN DVLA would say that is not legit because they would probably say you could clone it with another car. They also, obviously, want their records straight The reality is, it doesn't come up. If the scrapper / metal recycler doesn't record the VIN (which if they don't take the V5 they won't) the DVLA believe it's in your possession and because SORN doesn't need renewing that's it The only way it would come up again would be if it re-entered the system in some way by taxing it, driving it, selling it but that's not going to happen, is it? A good point. As a precation, I've put the e46 up for sale on the fleas bays, and in the meantime will enquire with various places if they will take it stripped down. In the event the car doesn't sell. Thanks for all the replies.

Worst case, and this is what i did with the last car i couldn't shift (ironically another Vectra), i put it on eBay with a buy it now of 99p, someone came and got it for scrap but i just signed the logbook over to him as if he were buying the car as normal, the disposal of it was then his problem.

Actually not a bad idea. As long as your upfront with what's left of the car, it's sold as seen.

I cut them up, cram them in something and weigh it in.
Concerningly I've never been asked for a V5!

A decent authorised place will take it on a truck, they'll just lift it on with a hiab if its a partial car!

I have seen this though giveacar.co.uk/about/how-it-worksA metal recycling place with a weighbridge would take it and probably would deal properly with the V5 But you've said you can't transport the shell yourself One might come to you though. They probably wouldn't pay you for the scrap but may pick it up for free If you're taking it apart on your driveway be prepared for an unhappy neighbour to complain (to you or the council) but so long as it's your car and not a business (and you say this is the only one you're doing) you'll be fine

That's because it's a cut up shell not a car I never really looked at it from that angle and I see your point. However if I owned a metal recyclers I would possibly ask a few questions about cut up shells for various reasons. Since my days of weighing in cut up shells I've changed who I use and they refuse totally to deal with any form of vehicle. As a possibly more helpful reply than my first, list it on eBay or gumtree and state a HIAB crane will be needed.

Lump Hammer and bolster chisel then chop into quarters and scrap. Only takes about an hour to chop.
