Hi all, sorry the Almera's not very retro but after 15 years it's nice to have my own car again.... Anyway, it's a 03 1.8 SVE with the built in radio/sat nav/climate control marlarky all showing up on a LCD display.. The problem is although everything woks just fine the radio won't turn it just shows up the work "secure" on a nice green background! Has anyone come across this problem before? It seems that the radio is linked into the NATS security system.. I don't know if the radio was working before I bought the car, but when I went to collect it the battery was very flat and needed a jump start. From what I can gather for the wonderful world of the internet a flat/changed battery can cause this sort of problem.. Any thoughts anyone? it would be nice to have a working radio

It will probably want you to enter the code. If it came with any paperwork, look for a radio code.

Thanks for that Waveman, I have the code it's when to put it in that's the problem as it never asks for a code.. All the radio says is "secure" with a nice green background!

I'm not a Nissan technician, so I can only google it for you. You might need to take it to a dealer or specialist. Google says:
When the radio is locked When NATS link problems occur “SECURE” message will be displayed in three ways indicating three different NATS link problems.
“Secure” on a red background indicates that there is a problem in the link between Navi control unit and Audio, suggesting that there is either a Navigation system fault or the Navi control unit has previously been fitted in another vehicle.
“Secure” on a green background indicates that there is a problem in the link between NATS IMMU and Audio, suggesting that there is an audio fault or the audio unit has previously been fitted in another vehicle.
“Secure” on a yellow background indicates that the transponder (NATS key) is not working correctly or it has previously been fitted in another vehicle.
When a “Secure” message (of any type) is displayed, it can be cleared by re-initializing the NATS system using CONSULT-II and the associated Immobilizer PIN code (there is no need to return the audio to a Clarion service centre). If re-initializing fails to clear a “Secure” message then the component (identified by background colour) is faulty and should be replaced.

Looks like you may need one of these devices:

Try leaving ign on pos 1 so secure is lit up and leave it for at least 1 hour and see if it lets you put code in .

Thanks for that Waveman, I found the very same info when researching the blasted radio.. A Consult II would be nice, but then I looked up the price of them!!!! Try leaving ign on pos 1 so secure is lit up and leave it for at least 1 hour and see if it lets you put code in . I did try this but nothing had changed after 6 hours! I did however read that nothing should be switched on during the time and I get the feeling that Rob opened the drivers door which would of switched the interior light on!! I need to give it another whirl and see what happens..
