I've fitted a rather nice electrically adjusted and heated seat into my van from a Renault Laguna 2. Luckily it's in aprox the right position for me but I would to be able to adjust it. It looks like there is some type of ECU strapped under the seat but I don't really want to power it up incase I fire the seat airbags by mistake as I have no idea on colour coding etc I've tried feeding 12v to the motor but nothing happened? Does it need a PWM driver or some such trickery? Is it likely to need a controller for the seat heating too?

I have a 2007 Laguna 2. I am led to believe that all of the electrics are on a CAN BUS with various ECU's for different functions coded to and talking to each other. I suspect the box under the seat is the 'out station' that takes the CAN messages and produces control functions from them. In which case your chances of making that box work are practically zero!!
I would pull off one of the motors and have a play with it on the bench - it should work when powered by a suitable high current 12v supply. Then you will have to make up your own control circuitry to get the seat functions to work.

Get at the live on the motor and use relays and your own switch panel.

I've tried a direct feed from a 12v battery to the motor with no result?

Is there just a pair of wires on the motor?

Just to throw a spanner in the works, isn't an adjustable seat now part of an MOT?

One is a live, one a switched live, earthed through the case? Or one clockwise, one anti clockwise, earthed through case?

This is a circuit I put together to replace a faulty seat controller on a Range Rover. You should be able to adapt it easily for your seats: ![](http://i962.photobucket.com/albums/ae103/cruiser137/RRSeatRelays.jpg)

it'll be the same as a window motor, so if you want to move it you need to give it an earth as well as a live, very easy.

Not till he works out how to make the motor move he can't. Thanks for pointing that out, I had no idea dodgerover: do you have a multimeter? Check the resistace of the motor. It will probably be somewhere between 2 ohms and 15 ohms depending on the motor design. If the resistance falls somewhere in this range the motor is probably Ok. Presumably its connected to some kind of reduction gearbox? Possibly this has siezed.

Yes just the 2 wires which was why I was surprised it didn't work Not so - My P100 failed it's 1st MOT when I finished building it as the seat could not be adjusted forward or back. (I used modded Cossie runners) It was the only failure point too. When I questioned it, he said that some wouldn't fail it but should. I changed the runners over to a proper P100 one and it sailed through.

Yep you are right, not come across that before. Reason for rejection The driver’s seat fore and aft adjustment mechanism not functioning as intended.
However it says specialist modifications to be accepted so I also read that as: if presented with no method of adjustment, ie switches removed or bucket seats bolted in position it would be pass and advise, I'm sure one of the testers on here could give us their take.
Luckily it was tested just before I fitted it and it's mounted on the van runners so just the recline function is motor driven on mine.
