Hi guys,
Need to get a people carrier. I know people hate them but i have always thought they are ace, especially with me being a cyclist and racing motorbikes and liking the option of sleeping in the car.
Must be under £1500
Cheaper the better
Would need to be able to tow
Not bothered about engine size but wouldnt mind a bit of mpg don't want a huge petrol engine but would happily have a small petrol
Must not be vauxhall. Lol.
Ideally japanese but doesn't have to be
What do we suggest. What have i been missing. I like the looks of the Honda smx or shuttle. Ford galaxy maybe or the vdub conterpart. Any of you guys have experience of these.
Cheers Tom

I had a 98 Sharan with the AFN 110 Tdi which was a great load carrier, good on fuel and very dull drive but reliable. I sold it with 198k on as it needed a clutch and I had just been given another car. the sharan/galaxy/alhambra can carry a bit of a price premium over others but are generally very good load carriers but when aged can have one or two electrical gremlins . Mechanically they are spot on. They did do a 1.8 T 150hp version which are quite rare but tunable if that's your thing. Honda Shuttle at that money is i think a 2.0 petrol so a good engine but iirc they are all autos?
Avoid Chryslers as they are really poor at that money. kia Sedona is a truck chassis so basic in ride. Never had one but have you considered Hyundai Trajet, cheap and reasonably equipped and usually Kia mecahanically reliable.
There are the J import Lucida type MPV but I have no experience of these.
You have to accept they are really a posh van so go drive whatever interests you first.

People carrier that can tow? For that money you should be able to find a tidy Discovery, 3.5 tonne tow limit unmodified, 4 with air braking trailer, 7 seats.

Hi there are you near Glasgow area as there was a guy selling a kid sedona it is a 04 diesel.its in gold metallic. I think I seen it on Gumtree. It was 750.00 but I think the price is a bit high. As I seen one on autotrader with 50,000 for 1450.00 a couple of weeks ago. I have never owned one but just thought it might be what your after.

I've had my Fiat Multipla for a year now. 1.9 JTD , 115bhp ,44mpg, and 3 individual rear seats that can come out or roll forward individually leaving a large van like load area with a flat floor and with 3 seats still at the front. I took and still take abuse from mates about driving such a thing, but for £500 she has done me proud, having carted my family up and down the country several times last year and with the added top box provided more than enough luggage capacity. Not yet fitted a tow bar to mine, but it's next on the list.

What about a citroen dispatch.twin sliding doors with or without windows and there will be plenty for sale out there. I think there 1.9d. And parts are plentiful too.

I like the multipla actually. Do we think they are really reliable though? Always thought fiat may be a bit hit and miss in terms of reliability. I will stand corrected though. Dispatch seens a decent option for space but would have to have eindows in the rear snd the price seems to go up a bit then.

The dispatch needs the HDi lump too, the 1.9D wouldn't pull your foreskin back.

I paid £500 for my 2003 JTD with 88k on it and to get it through the MOT it needed a drop link, ball joint, front wishbone and a couple of bulbs. Since then it's not let me down but as preventative maintenance I've replaced the EGR valve, given it a full service including fuel filter and reckon I'm about £1000 all in now. Don't get me wrong, it's still a 14 year old Fiat with 96K on the clock, but all the electrics work, including both sunroofs and the aircon and the biggest surprise is my wife and daughters love the thing !

Oh, and I see you've got bikes which is another good reason for a Multipla, as my wifes VNB Vespa has been out in ours a few times !

I had a '95 estima, pain in the bum to fit the tow bar and wire but fitted an 80cc quad and three people in the back and a 350cc and 50cc on the trailer, towed as if it was unloaded. Makes a usable bed as well. Owned it for 5 years and it cost me a pair of front flexi hoses, tail box and a couple of sets of pads. Best car I've owned for all round use.

I have had a citroen c8 scrapped at 5 years old, Multipla bought while trying to get sorted with C8 kept for 4 years only trouble it gave me was suspension bushes and camshaft sensor plus abuse from mates, toyota avensis verso at the moment , believe it or not the multipla was my favourite.I wouldn't have a people carrier unless I needed one.
