I know this has probably been covered before, so if you can find the thread just post me a ink to it. Also no "things told to me by Dave in the pub that are true, honestly"
I may buy a vehicle that was sorned in December 2016 when the MOT ran out but it is running and driving (previous mot had one advisoriy). If I do this I'll need to get it from Kent to Devon, it will be going straight to it's MOT and service. So is this allowable? As I said if you know where the answer is on DVLA or here just post a link. Thanks folks.

But not from Kent to Devon...it should be the closest MOT station.

If you take it to the nearest mot station and it fails, can you drive it home?

But not from Kent to Devon...it should be the closest MOT station. It can be any test station in the UK as long as its prebooked and you are driving straight there no stopping off to do shopping or visit friends etc.

www.gov.uk/getting-an-motIf the MOT has run out
You can’t drive your vehicle on the road if the MOT has run out. You can be prosecuted if caught.
The only exceptions are to drive it: ##to or from somewhere to be repaired ##to a pre-arranged MOT test
No mention of distance

If you take it to the nearest mot station and it fails, can you drive it home? As long as it's safe to drive. The car has to be in a roadworthy condition to drive it to or from an MOT. (Having a valid MOT and a car being roadworthy are two different things)

Where in Kent is it?
If it's local enough to me Id probably be able to stop around and have a look at it for you if that's of any help? Might even be able to chuck it in for an mot prior to your collection and drive it home with ticket.

As long as the vehicle has insurance, you can drive it to an mot station anywhere in the UK.

It's a reasonable distance not like one end of the country to another

It's a reasonable distance not like one end of the country to another Its to a pre-arranged mot, it doesn't say anything about distance. Granted you might get pulled by the police if you tried driving from Thurso to Truro

Thanks for your answers everyone. Pretty much what I thought.

Distance doesn't matter. However you can still get done for an unroadworthy or defective vehicle if the police check it over. Some of which are endorsable such as defective tyres.

But the best thing is its only a fine for no mot no points ! But you can still get a VDRN or even a prohibition also driving a vehicle with defective brakes, parts or accessories likely to cause injury or danger to other road users, defective tyres and defective steering can earn you points even if you are going to or from an MOT. EDIT.... I was typing this as the chap above was explaining it in less words.

Why wouldn't you just get it MOT'ed close to the pick up?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
And of course it must be Taxed, but you can't do that with no MOT

nope, you don't need to tax it to get to an MOT, as you said yourself, you can't till it has one.

And of course it must be Taxed, but you can't do that with no MOT You can drive to and from an MOT without 'tax'

Driving to a place to get repaired... again this is nondescript, can I drive my car with an expired MOT to my parent's 30 miles away to use their pit to repair it?
As far as I can see there are no rules against it specifically but it seems a bit vague.
