A guy that I knew way back had a late Hunter GT in a metallic Green/Blue, I guess Teal would be the best description of it, which I always liked - I associate Yellow on Hunters with a GLS, that was frequently seen when I was walking to school, complete with obligatory black vinyl roof.
If going for RAL numbers as the plate above - RAL 5001 Green Blue or My personal favourite RAL 1028 Melon Yellow - Although RAL 5021 Water Blue may suit it well.

What Nomad said. The same applies to the Fuel and Brake lines if you grind the ledges out too....

Glad to see the progress, looking good Seats - some (all?) have shorter legs on the transmission tunnel side - they mount on a ledge welded onto the tunnel. Normal seats won't fit easily but can be persuaded Tips : If you drill out the spot welds to remove the ledge from the tunnel, don't drill the fuel or brake lines under the car as that would be silly. Ask me how I know the pipes run behind the spot welds Also check the seats you get don't have side mounted adjustment levers that will hit the handbrake lever. Ask me how I know this is important That's some useful advice that I hadn't considered at all...thank you nomad ! I'm sure I can persuade them to fit somehow!! The more I look at the yellow photoshop the more I like it - and I'm not exactly a shy person so it goes well with that. Did you ask Grumpy about your car when you visited him? Not visited him yet - hopefully soon! blacked out grill looks awesome, makes it look like a 60s camaro That's what my mechanic said - looks like a cute little mini Charger or similar! Ordered a Rad cap from good ol' eBay yesterday as I forgot I needed one as mine seems to leak water. Small progress.

Picked it up on Friday for the show on Sunday.. Although split a heater hose on the way home - overheated and spilt out all of the coolant... Thankfully my ever patient mechanic and friend came out to me, we sawed and clamped for half hour or so over a box of assorted pipework and cobbled together another one, hooray! No pictures sadly - not pretty but functional. Thankfully I had a load of coolant in the boot anyhow! Tried to start it the next day aaaaaaaaaaaaaaand.. Think I finally need to cough up for a new battery! Although it started again after a 15 mile or so run around. I've got £40 of Halfrauds vouchers so I'll take a look. Next day it was pretty bloody cold.. and kept snowing so the thought of driving 120 miles or so in a day, with an amber weather warning, worried me - so I finally moved it into the garage I've wangled my way into! So now it's safe and dry so I can finally do some niggly work on it. As I write this, inside with a glass of hot Orange and Mango (don't judge me!) eating pistachios there is a small snowstorm outside - so was probably for the best that I gave it a miss.

It is strange that what was taken for granted once is no longer a given now. I was driving my Hunter GT in all weathers, including plenty of snow, back in the early 80s because it was my only car and, in those days, it was an old banger that cost me £275 to buy, in 1982. The choke was held out by a clothes peg and, by the time I had commuted a whole 10 miles to work, the car had only just started to get lukewarm inside. Not once did I even consider not running it in several inches of snow or any bad weather. To be fair, id not want to run one now in all weathers either, sod that for a game. Your car brings back very good memories indeed!

Your car brings back very good memories indeed! Brilliant! It's mainly the fact that it's not yet undersealed that makes me cautious of weather! Less than 5 GT's still alive in the UK now I believe, worth a fair amount! Glad it brings back some good memories, a lot of people say that - part of the reason why I love driving it around. :-) Long day on Friday... Driving up to @grumpynorthener to collect the stuff that nomad dropped to him when he went opp norf the other day - took about an hour longer than expected due to the constant rain. Thought I was lost when I was getting close then I came across some lovely cars and knew I was in the right place... Chris couldn't have been more welcoming, got a good look around his garage (what a dream!) and got a good tour of this beautiful Jarrett, modelled by my lovely partner Tia: It's people like him that keep the Retro community kind and a great place to be - it's all about helping each other and he has my eternal thanks. Loaded it all into the car...just about:. Seats down in a K11 Micra still made for a very, very full journey back: Had to drop some PC stuff off to a friend in Luton which was a painful detour - total of about 6 and a half hours of driving in a day. Rain all the way. But now I have some doors! And springs, and suspension, brake calipers, heater box, official rootes manual...bargain really. Hoping to book some time off next week to get the springs and doors on in prep for this next weekend. oh - and the tracking needs doing..

Went to Canterbury Cars & Coffee on Sunday - the car drove faultlessly from my house to Canterbury too (35 or so miles, 100ish total over the weekend - probably the longest trip it's done since I bought the thing..) - bought a new battery for the occasion as I'm fed up of jumping the curse word thing. Only a few people there but lovely chaps and some great motors, including this midget which I want more than my next breath: Not sure why people prefer the round wheel arch models - I love the squared off rear arch. Reminds me of a Citroen BX. And mikehamid s wonderful/woeful Trabant! Can't believe it was made in 1990, 2 stroke engine, no coasting, column change manual, no petrol gauge (uses a dip stick!!) - insane car. Character by the bucketful though. Mike told us when he got in that he got 3MPG going to and from the meet. It really shows why communism didn't work - think of the stuff Japan was churning out in 1990! Flabbergasting. The panel gaps alone...props to him - must be a hard car to love sometimes!! Tia got to have a sit in it and good look around it - being a history graduate with a huge interest and knowledge of communism & various things she loved the experience (as you can tell by her foolish grin ) Some overview pics: In the above picture you can see why Tia is awesome...only woman ever to love getting up at 9AM to drive in a Hillman in the rain to a car meet. Then took it for a little drive in the country: and a trip down to Whitstable (where I saw a 40's Austin looking convertible thing - wish I got a pic!) Killed the brand new battery when I drove back by leaving the lights on in the car park....- but gave it a jump, drove home and it started the next day. So glad I got a new one that actually likes being charged and holding onto said charge. My mechanic fitted the front springs I got the other day this afternoon - it's a bit more level but now I realise the issue is down to the right leaf spring at the back being quite flat...doh. Time to look for one of those I suppose!

Twas a pleasure to meet you both at the meet and see the Hillman. She's an absolute beaut! Also, I'm glad your right height is levelling out a bit more.
I'm glad you were entertained by my Trabi (aka Igor). If it weren't for the fuel leak, it's not that (emphasis on that) woeful. If you consider it a 50's car with a pre-war gearbox, then it's about right lol.
We need to meet at a place that sells pasties next time to go with your Cornish flag! lol.

That reminds me - I need to remove that bloomin flag... Went for a drive out last week to some old childhood haunts with my sister: Lovely evening. Chased down an ice cream man. Then continued to make the most of the sun going to the beach on Saturday and a classic show at the Headcorn Aerodrome which was packed!! Just saw it on FB for free and decided to go along not expecting much and it was brilliant. Some lovely motors there, good day had by all. Tia seems to have a very surprising like for 60's - 80's american cars....not that I'm complaining! Would love to see her behind the wheel of a 60's caddy! Haha! I really want a caterham or old 2 seater kit car/convertible after that show though...only 2 other rootes cars there and both older than mine, an Alpine and an old Minx. Rootes are less and less these days! Had quite a few people ask me questions, chat and seem to enjoy the car which was lovely! For paint - been thinking graffiti painting it yellow with some black detailing/side stripes. Will buy some paint soon...

I love your car. It's got that irrepressible spirit that I find so appealing about certain retros and classics. It's had a life, it's had a few fights, it's lost a few teeth along the way but it wears it all so well and just looks keen for the next day's adventure. It wants to be a rally car. It doesn't care what the other cars think. It's just oozing with optimism and enthusiasm. It's exactly what I like in a car. "Come on, let's do it"

That's pretty much me as a person - which is probably why I like this car so much - I do fear painting it would lose some of the charm but equally I hate the paint scheme as it is so I gotta do something. Might put a new number on the new doors... Hoping to take the leaf springs off soon to send for refurb (£75 each!) so it'll sit/ride/handle/track better - just gotta do it when I know I don't want to goto any meets!

Got him out for the sun. Was going to get the rear leaf springs sent away for a refurb to stop the lopsided-ness earlier this month but other things too financial priority... Forgot I had a new rad cap in the glovebox I got from a motor factors to go on as mine had stopped sealing (I'm hoping thats why some coolant was disappearing - evaporation) Old (original?) vs New: Fits like a glove and was only a couple of quid. - I always goto CAT Automotive in Gillingham business park for all my stuff - lovely helpful chaps there and very good prices. Easily beat any other motor factor. After a bit of a charge from my K11, a few cranks and some pleading it started quite happily. Spotted my SO's sister and her BF on the way home and gave them a lift to their place which helped charge the battery - started fine this morning. While I was giving them a lift I spotted this little beauty: Absolutely minty clean in every sense of the word. Sticker on the back implied it had some serious engine fettling too. Beautiful example of a very rare car nowadays. Colour me jealous!

Sadly not much progress. Did intend to get the rear leafs refurbed but then the gearbox on the Micra started to go. Crunching all over the shop. Drained it and it was like panning for gold! 1st was barely there, popped out of 5th all the time. Needed a service, some welding, brakes, MOT in Sept....so needed a replacement (especially with a mystery 800 mile round birthday trip planned at the end of the week! Planned by the other half entirely, involves 7 hours of walking and a lot of camp stuff...so bloody excited) After looking at a lot of absolute basket cases ( "Yeah mate it's mint, runs great" - full of filler and the clutch slips like a greased seal) - turns out £2 - 400 is not an awful lot to buy a car on. After a week solid of stressful searching and viewing piles of toss I came across a freshly PX'd 106 from a private dealer, loads of history, all bills of work since 2012, always serviced on time and never wanted for anything - cambelt done in 2015 with proof, service in Dec '17 and MOT until August. Drives like an absolute peach, nippy, no bad noises and very comfy (makes me realise how messed up the micra was). Blower fan doesn't work so I got it for £300. Bargain. Gave it a wash aaaand: Scrubs up well. Think this one is a keeper (touch-wood!), might even take it to a garage for services to keep the history going. Really such a tidy car, few scratches and dents but it's genuinely lovely. Blue tartan interior too which is neat-o. Micra went off to the banger racers, to be raced on the 9th: Got £110 for it and only paid £120, so 4/5 months motoring for a tenner...decent. 25 this month, insurance on my daily goes down to £37 a month from £75 a month, phone contract is now SIM only saving me £28 a month. £66 a month saving to spend on other (Hillman?) things. For now, I'm fairly skint but looking forward to an awesome campy/walky trip. Glad I have a good daily, and hopeful for the future. Sorry for the non-hillman related update and a bit of a ramble...but there you have it!

Camping was amazing. We climbed a mountain. Hugely epic weekend. Beautiful campsite. Stunning views. Perfect company. She arranges the best things! Long drive though - about 7 hours each way, and she doesn't drive (yet!). 106 performed faultlessly and continues to do so. 50+ MPG too. Few pics: Saw a bloody wicked camper too. Then had a few busy weeks prepping to help Tia move into her new place...a lot of shunting back and forth this weekend: Thank god for Bungee cords! Also scored a £200 ikea glass topped metal desk for free but that's another story. Trying not to make this thread too much about my life! Now everything has settled, I've ordered some paint to collect this weekend when I'm in Brighton (saves delivery costs as I'm there anyhow) - colours are secret squirrel for now (Tia was a huge help in this - me being colour blind makes it tough to look at a colour wheel-thingy!). Hopefully get the new doors fitted this Saturday so I can try the paint on the old doors once I've stripped the numbers off. Ideas have been flying back and fourth between me and Tia for potential stencils too.. I did have it out in the Sun breifly, seems to be using a bit of coolant, I can only assume evaporation as the HG is fresh and I know it needs new pipes all around...long project!

So - I bought a new daily because I have no self control. Nah - mainly because now I'm 25 my insurance has gone down and I miss my old MK1 MX5. Went to see it as it was local for a laugh, ended up buying it.. The 106 was good - just so dull. 1.6 Import Eunos is more my style. Looks the dogs danglies too I think you'll agree! Sticks to the road like glue. Literally. It's scary. 106 will be for sale soon if anyone fancies. Had a roof down run out to Brighton for a day out, and to collect some paint. Sadly they gave me the wrong shade of....one of them...but that will be resolved soon with any luck. More expensive daily means that progress will be probably a little slower but not too much - but I'm a much happier bunny overall. I look forward to driving to work / around again which I haven't in the longest time.
