Hey, I take offense to that! - I kid To be fair I love the... I don't know what look you'd call it But I love that sort of mismatched panels, light patina and mismatched parts on older stuff. Wear and Tear rat look if you will If it were mine I honestly wouldn't be looking at painting it it looks cracking as is I know what you mean! I did have the mad thought the other day of rat looking it then I came to my senses. I do love the faded paint and the character it has. Just want to make it mine a bit more. This era of 1500 engine also uses a scroll to try and fling the oil back into the engine. Doesn't seem to work that well... I was reading about that in nomads thread, think I might need to ungunk it detling is just up the road from me, and just down the road from you, therefore we may be geographically close Sounds like it! I'm in Aylesford but I'm moving in two weeks or so. Capri springs are a bolt on fit for the front shocks, i ran Capri lowering springs on mine for ages until i converted the struts to adjustable coilovers! PM sent - my spare springs are now for sale cheap. 3 sets : std Hunter, cut Hunter, lowered uprated Capri ( ^ as advised by Hillmanjames a couple of years ago ) Thank you both! Nomad - replied Drove it pretty much all last week. Loved every minute. Also got a chance to really rag it on some fun-ish roads, it's a fun car to drive at high revs on the limit. Surprisingly fun actually!! I just love the feeling of rinsing every bit of power out of a tiny engine. Makes me very happy. Moving out in two weeks so not much progress will happen over the next month until things settle down. Then I can really concentrate. I think I've figured out a name for it: Popcorn. Because the exhaust just pops constantly when coming down from high revs now it has no backbox and sounds awesome. Still need to decide on the name for sure though. I also post a lot of pictures of it with crappy filters on Instagram if anyone wants to follow me: @ smokinwaffle

No progress, but I'm now in my new place! It's rather nice. Getting things sorted, changing the address on 5 V5's...hassle. My work commute has now gone from 150 miles a week to 29 miles a week. Through a rather splendid piece of serendipity, I was offered my old Volvo 740 back by the chap who I sold it to for a sweet deal. With the reduced commute, I couldn't say no! Peugeot is going to the girlfriends mother for a few months while she SORN's and sells her TT (anyone want it? 3.2 V6 and it's shiny!) - then to probably, sadly, be sold. It's now got cut springs, sprayed black steels (standard ones, still dishy!), and a lovely sounding dual tip shotgun exhaust. Added bonus - he took it on a Dyno locally and got it running perfect. Turns out the second choke broken (that's why it was so slow and juicy!) so had a new choke and jet fitted which gained it 20BHP and around 30ftlbs! Don't get me wrong, it's not a fast car but it's hugely faster than it was. Only photo I have, collected it tonight in the dark. Welcome back Biscuit, old friend.

Took it out for the first time in...6 weeks? Yesterday. Gave it a wash - little photoshoot with some friends and new people, got some nice shots with my friends '79 240 and a '65 Morris Minor. Waiting for the shots from the photographer to materialise. Nice location, nice weather and nice people. There was such a large selection too, from a 17 plate MX5 RF and 66 Plate Focus RS to a Jurrasic Park themed duo of 406's and the old Morris. Even a RWD Manual Stagea which was lovely. The daily met the project for the first time too. 2 very good looking behinds.. Even spotted this lovely Alfa Romeo on the way back home. The search for a Garage or workspace continues...

Never thought about this until just now, but the Hillman reminds me of a Datsun 510 I'm not a massive fan of British car's, but your Hillman just looks right.

I think the hunter has one of the best looking back ends of any car. Clean and simple but nicely done. Dan

The 'Sunbeam Vogue' mentioned above was probably a Singer Vogue (I have two) as the Sunbeam vogue was I think only sold abroad and possibly in the later 70s?
Great cars, was out in one of mine last weekend around the Banbury area along with a swarm of Imps.
The sagging may just be a tired spring, on my other one both rear springs are shot.

Definitely a Sunbeam Vogue, Sold by Carris Motors in Catford I still have pictures of my Dads car when it was written off on the Sun in the Sands Roundabout, dark metallic green, black interior, no rev counter but a wooden dash, and a single carb, the one I saw in Berko must have been 15 years ago, and was 100% sunbeam vogue, the fact that it was the same Metallic Green as my dads I tried to buy it there and then, the fella was not selling, but was surprised that I knew what the car was........

Singer Vogues were badged as Sunbeams in the U.K. for a few months after the Singer brand was killed off by Rootes.

The sagging is just a tired spring! Hopefully getting some from Nomad! Hi, not sure if you are still looking for parts - I can post springs if needed - can't see a way to get my spare doors down to you MEssaged you mate! Neither can I - not cheaply anyway Been using the Hunter daily for a week or so as I can't get an MOT on the Volvo with cut springs, drove to Wimbledon and back to pickup a nice corner desk for my new place, performed faultlessly. Although it is using a lot of coolant - I think the head gasket may be on it's way out... Hoping to get the Volvo back on the road very very soon so I can do some work on the Hunter

Okay, quick update, head gasket is fine, think it was just air in the system! Doesn't seem to use any water now I've bled it a bit. Hooray.
In less fun news I'm toying with selling it, as much as I love it I fear I won't ever have the time or money to do what I want to it and don't want to be one of those people who leave it sitting to rust for years on end...whats it worth do you think?
I have a price in mind which is mostly what I paid + what i've put into it, but would be good to get opinions. Or if anyone is interested. Ideal would be an trade for a MK1 Eunos as I kind of miss mine but I could do with the money equally..

Drove it for 3 weeks solid as a daily when my daily was off the road for some work, started using coolant at an alarming rate, checked the inside of the oil cap aaaannnnnddd yogurt. Hoorah! So the headgasket is gone/very much on it's way out, buying a replacement in the next week or so to get it working for early next year, might even get around to painting it..

New headgasket kit arrived (next day delivery and very cheap, thanks to Speedy Spares!) It's with my mechanic at the moment to be fitted and sorted out, after an absolute mare trying to start it after sitting for a while. Wouldn't jump start, towed it out, flat tyre, spare didn't fit, needed more petrol (thankfully I had some). After filling the flat with tyre jelly green weirdness from a can (didn't want to but it needs new tyres for the MOT anyhow...) it bump started being towed by a Ford Kuga at about 20MPH. Ran like a dog for a little bit but ran like a peach when it got going. I miss that smell of oil and petrol! MOT is booked for Friday, headgasket hopefully being done tomorrow and gonna grab some part worns Friday Morning and off we go to a (hopefully) successful MOT! Really needs an oil change too as the oil is probably contaminated but I forgot to order a filter - will see if a local motor factor has one...gulp.

Headgasket done by my ever patient mechanic and friend, Dave: Got an oil filter for £2 from a motor factors so got an oil change too. Runs better than ever now, stays cool (which is almost odd at this point as I'm so used to it not!). Two new front tyres, swapped the rear that was full of tyre jelly for a good spare I had. Gave it a damn good wash after a few months sitting (it was filthy!): Bloody freezing doing that in 1 degree weather too....my hands are just about intact. Gave the underneath a good wash to get rid of some of the excess oil just in case the tester got funny about it. Took it down to the test center aaaaaand... Hooray! It's final pass as it won't need one with the new regs coming in soon. Needs a new gearbox mount, one of the front springs is a bit saggy (I knew that) and the rear leaf needs looking at but I knew that too. Tester was lovely, loved the car, got a good gander underneath (still clean!! next job - UNDERSEAL!) Chuffed to bits. Now just to sell my Volvo to treat it to some bits, all of the hoses are very hard so that high up on the list too. A parting picture of it next to my daily: Onwards!

Update! Kinda. Sold the Volvo to a lovely chap from Ireland - so thats on it's way there now. Hooray! On-route from nomad via @grumpynorthener sometime next week (Pony Express - huge huge thanks to both!) are: - Bare front doors (no glass) - as mine are both now so rusty I can snap them at the bottom
- Standard hunter springs - to stop it sagging to one side like a drunken old man
- Lowered uprated Capri springs (180lb, -2" drop) - for if I'm feeling cheeky
- genuine factory workshop manual
- A few other little bits
So I'll have a road trip to Reading to pick them up when they are there! (and the snow stops..) Non-hunter related, my £120 K11 RetroRides bargain has been serving me very well in the harsh weather, not got stuck once. Doubt it's heavy enough to. (a rather unflattering photo of my partner here ) Also got a sticker on it, courtesy of the lovely lady above: Brilliant, no? Side note - if you want to follow my Instagram - please do feel free. It's mostly cars and food - try to put most of the car stuff on here too.

Stuff has arrived a few days ago at @grumpynorthener - hoping to collect in the next few weeks - the system works! Now just trying to arrange lifts back and fourth to move the Hillman into its new garage I've obtained for it so I can start properly replacing bits and eventually painting it. Did some crude photoshops. I was so sure I wanted yellow until I saw it - but to be fair I'd want a paler yellow than this (numbers and stripe will be going too) - I think that's why it's a bit lairy: But I do like this a lot too: Decisions decisions...any suggestions? First person to suggest matte black gets a swift poke in the eye with a sharp stick. I like pastel colours I think.. I think my colour choice is always going to be lairy as I have strong deuteranopia (red-green colourblindness) so I can't see many shades of things, the bright ones are the only ones that really look different from each other. Saw this on a Facebook page too - would look amazing with the yellow and a blacked out grille: Also have some seats planned, but more on that when it happens..

Glad to see the progress, looking good Seats - some (all?) have shorter legs on the transmission tunnel side - they mount on a ledge welded onto the tunnel. Normal seats won't fit easily but can be persuaded Tips : If you drill out the spot welds to remove the ledge from the tunnel, don't drill the fuel or brake lines under the car as that would be silly. Ask me how I know the pipes run behind the spot welds Also check the seats you get don't have side mounted adjustment levers that will hit the handbrake lever. Ask me how I know this is important
