Well I know it isn't retro but with the impending home coming of the very retro Cressida I also need a sensible daily car that gets reasonable mpg. At the moment I have a 2005 Lexus GS300 Lovely machine and whilst I don't think 23 mpg is too bad given the size of the car I'm finding it hard to justify having two gas guzzlers to the Long haired chief financial officer. This is where the plucky little panda comes in, I have seen a few reviews and all seem to be fairly positive but wanted to ask if anyone has ever owned one or driven one long enough to give a decent appraisal of it. I used to have an Abarth 500, that was a 1.4 turbo and whilst it wasn't particularly quick always raised a smile. I'm hoping the Panda can deliver similar fun as it appears to be a slightly sweeter handling car than the 500 despite the top heavy looks. fire away and as per the rules......

I always thought these looked quite cool. And the one you posted certainly does. So also in for general opinion.

All I really know about them is that my kids and my wife really dislike them and the ride apparently isn't great. I seriously considered buying one but my wife talked me into buying an S-type. I still really like the little Panda and haven't ruled one out but if your wife says "No. Don't buy the small economical car" what are you going to do?
From what I recall, there didn't seem to be any more issues with them than for other modern cars.

epic , but small. The speed does not make up for the lack of room , but i have to clarify iḿ a big guy. I bought a punto abarth shortly after. isnt justifyable as a family car. My old Vw Lupo Gti was way bigger and that was small too.

Panda is 6-speed where the Abarth 500 is only 5-speed I believe. The Panda 6sp is pretty close ratio and is best at home on back roads rather than on the motorway, 70mph is 3500rpm in 6th. Leave the Sport button on, it makes the throttle response snappier and the steering heavier, which gives more steering feel. The main criticism of the 100HP is the overly firm rear suspension, which can be cured by cutting down the massive rear bump stops and replacing the shocks with Konis. Here's mine in two guises. https://www.instagram.com/p/BPhjpqFBZFB I spent a few weeks colour-coding some 500 Abarth 17s, and slapped them on. You may agree it looks great, but...it ruined the car. Completely borked the driving feel, drove like aids and dulled the acceleration. This is a car that wants to be driven, so I switched back to the original diameter 15s, but selected the lightest road wheel Rota makes, the Slipstream, with the stock tyre size of 195/45R15, but in Toyo Proxes T1-R flavour. https://www.instagram.com/p/BQ8Xddgh_yl I love this thing, it's a hoot to drive. I've added KW coil overs and a full Ragazzon Group N exhaust. It's not fast, but it is nippy and chuckable, and a great B-road blaster.

Superb response fella's much appreciated.
VIP your panda looks stunning and you've convinced me with your description that it'll be exactly what I hoped for. Thanks.

Had one of these in metallic grey ( best colour in my opinion). Boot is tiny, rear leg room is none existent, but my god what a pocket rocket! The seats are as firm as the suspension! Much fun, 6 speed box, decent mpg and very sporty, mine was totally standard. I only sold it due to a company car...my advice is buy one and I can guarantee you won't stop smiling.

I test drove one a couple of years ago and quite enjoyed it. Ended up buying an 06 plate Smart ForFour. I'm on an economy drive at the moment, being a bit underemployed - the G Wagen and 9-5 might have to be changed for something considerably less spendy. I'm liking the Panda a lot. However, I'm getting quite old and am wondering if the 100hp might be a touch crashy. Like yours a lot.

I agree they're quite likable cars. I've only got the eco version with a whopping 54bhp but as a way of getting about for not much cash it suits me and they look a bit different from their rivals from the far east. Can't comment much on the interior space as I don't carry passengers often, but even having downsized from a MK1 Focus it doesn't feel too claustrophobic. This is what I'd like to do with mine but probably never will:-

Had a 57 plate one in black a few years back.... Absolutely loved it and realy miss it.
GOOD POINTS: *Looks nuts imho *auto climate control and leccy windows etc , makes it nice for a relitively cheap little car *absolute blast to drive! Realy great, Took mine over to the isle of wight and we drove down the coast road over the back, made for roads like that.
BAD POINTS: *Known fault (fiat supposedly sell alot of them) is the heater blend flaps going, (climate goes to all vents and wont regulate) To repair this requires a new heater blend box , to replace this requires removing the doors to remove the dash. £900 part *known for using oil, Mine was no exception and supposedly there was a recall for this problem but some arnt sorted. *seat cloth is absolutely awefull... I left the window open and it got rained on one afternoon, Never got rid of the water marks on the bolsters after that, not even after vaxing the hell out of it twice. *Fiat don't seem to feel the need to paint everywhere... Loads of the car is still primer. Not visable on a white or silver car, But glaringly obvious on a black car in bonnet and boot shuts etc., *ride is abnormally crashy. We lived in the newforest at the time and it was realy curse word over cattle grids, Used to make the cd pop out haha.
Personally. Id have another if it was cheap, And i mean £1500 cheap, Otherwise nope. the fun factor of it doesnt outweigh the negs.

Ouch on the heater box! I thought it was only Peugeot 407s that had a bad heater box design ; they either get stuck on full heat or no heat. Has the new part for the Panda been redesigned? They do look like quite a bit of fun .

They do look like quite a bit of fun . For the heater box i don't think its a new design no... the bit that breaks is the end of the blend flap where the motors mount. They just shear off. There's no way to fix without removing. And its such a small bit of plastic its not realy feasable to bodge it either... i tried lol
