420hp at 9 psi that's good to now I've read lots on what to expect from this but the figures vary ive modified the inlet and fuel rail so it can take a std Bosch injector as I found I had a better choice that way I'm using 440cc injectors Back on the rollers today and at 12 psi using just water in the spray kit made 398whp so around 440-450 crank . 16 deg full advance and did lots of pulls at the final figure to give it a good pasting and watch for any coolant temp rise etc . Water has gained a bit of power compared to none but it's not intercooled so needs some help Sounds good I've got mine booked in next month for the rolling road not sure what I'm expecting to get but as its my road car I'm going to play it safe so not out an out power

VERY nice! Would you mind giving any details of the flywheel and clutch. I have a 1uzfe and the BMW box is a cheaper option than the rather spendy W58. I'm using the BMW box so I'm using a BMW clutch and a modified bmw flywheel theres no cheap option just slightly cheaper but the BMW stuff is more readily available

No knock at 18 deg advance but again didn't make a lot of difference

With most of the hard work done it's just bits and bobs left to do now I've had the car running on the original Volvo fuel pump and I'm sure it would be fine for the sort of power we looking at but as it was 25 years old I thought it wouldn't hurt to replace it with a better pump Pretty straight forward job but it didn't go quite to plan the new 044 pump is bigger than the std pump (I thought they were all the same size) So had to buy a different bracket and being bigger trying to squeeze the pump and filter on to its original bracket ment for some minor tweeks So as with everything what started out as a 5 minute job turns into a day job (not helped by every copper washer not sealing) taking it off and on time and time again

Before I make the exhaust I had to deal with where it runs The exhaust would normally start on the O/S of the engine and run alone side the O/S chassis leg This means all the fuel and brake lines run down the N/S chassis leg and that's where the new exhaust is going to run So had to move them or protect them This is what I did This is what I started with Next was a covering of heat matting and then some heat shield Next job is to tackle the exhaust

Awesome, can't wait to see this on the road. I have been thinking of putting a uzfe in my 245. Are you taking orders?

I'd like to do this as a side line but it's unlikely to happen i enjoy building stuff like this and once it's done I want to move on to the next one I'm already thinking about the next one and this isn't quite finished yet

Next The exhaust The original Volvo system goes all over the place like a lost snake I did think of going down the 80s Volvo touring car route and go side exit Would of been so much easier but two reasons stopped me 1) this is my road car so if I use it to commute to and from work it needs to be quiet (I start work at 2am) 2) I still want to keep the std look This was the result

Next problem I made myself was the oil cooler wanted to run an oil cooler and as I already using a remote oil filter it was quite an easy thing to do as I was looking at oil coolers to buy I wasn't sure what size to buy so I went down the "big is best route" and bought a 30 row it was only when it turned up I realised how big it was and I couldn't find anywhere to put it the original plan was to fit it behind the bumper but this was to big to do that
the only place big enough was on the cross member behind the rad this is where the problem came about with the oil cooler behind the rad the only place I could fit the rad fan was at the front but with the intercooler sitting lower than the rad I could only get two small fans in

Following on from last post Told you I wasn't to good with technology As you can see the fans are more motor than fan so the end result was once the thermostate opens they couldn't keep the temp down enough So had to go with plan B Move the oil cooler and fit a bigger fan (big is always best) Only place left to fit this oil cooler was underneath Now there's an air flow problem So I then made an adjustable ducting Only thing left was the fan It was a bit close to the exhaust so lagged the exhaust and made a small heat shield where it's at its closest Not runn it up since but I can't see why it wouldn't work now So job done

Just some odds and sods to finish off Clutch and power steering plumbing Had to change the master cylinder as it wasn't compatible with the BMW slave cylinder For the high pressure side of the power steering I used some braided PTFE pipe with AN fittings

I haven't fitted an oil cooler yet and run a10/50 Motorsport oil , coolant never gets above 90c so the oil temp won't be much higher . Pressure stays around 4.5 bar on track but the stock breather needs some help as the two little ones on the cam covers aren't really up to the Job with a turbo so I'm adding a 25mm hole each side feeding into a catch can

Well it's all but finished I need to sort out some teething problems and some finishing touches But it runs and drive and I love it I can't rave on about how good the 1uz is (it's early days so I'm not counting my chickens yet) Here's a engine photo Just need to keep it clean now

Many steps ahead of me, looks good and almost like the 1uzfe should be there.

I'm very impressed with the pace of the work and the finished engine bay. Can you put some running vidoes up?

Love this. A 1UZ Volvo is a dream of mine, along with various other Volvo swaps!
You mentioned doing a 940 after this. Is it getting a 1UZ as well?
