Cut a long story short, finally found the problem on my Mazda b2500 pick up non turbo v reg it's the micro mesh filter that sits inside the injector pump where the banjo bolt fits, there is a spring and then the filter (small hook needed to 'fish' it out!) the engine runs like a dream now instead of choking at 2000rpm! plenty of images online....... this does not help me!
I need a replacement filter and spring, there are companies out there on the net offering 100 for 48 dollars etc etc... i only want one! yet when i find a so called Diesel 'specialist' they can't be bothered to reply to my request!
Anyone out there know of someone who knows what they are talking about and can talk the talk AND Walk the walk???
it's not rocket science!............ or is it?
sadly the guy who was Essex injector services in Orsett is around no longer, but I don't care where they are in the country, just provide a service! (Godammit!)

Leave the filter out. Common fault on the d22 navaras too. I ran mine without it in from day 1

ok will do! Been banging my head against the wall! It was suggested a pump membrane problem, injector problem, the wind blowing the wrong way etc etc.... £200 later, we stumbled on it without any 'specialist' garages!
So at the end of it, going to keep the old Mazda and sell my Ranger! What a dreadful start to the new year! nope! don't ask!!! noooooooo!!!!!
Cheers for the advice!

The truck had sat for about 8 months, had all sorts of fuel thrown in it, used to go around a large large yard, when it was taken out, rock solid! the engine has only covered 131K from 1999, but i am def' keeping it, engine is sweet, just need the underside welding, may lower it later, and if the engine does give out, i may just put a pinto in it! watch this space! in the meantime, the ranger at 103K 53 plate will go up for sale. I will be looking for a good set of deep dish steels for the older truck, (maybe my next project after the Bread van? thanks again.

Basically the guy said that the filters should be changed every 30K, and the main reason for them being put there in the 1st place is because of the assembly of the vehicles, very interesting indeed, this is what he said......
That filter is a PSF filter and this refers to a Production Swarf Filter and is used widely on Nissans and Mazda engines. Their function is to stop particles getting into the fuel pump during the production and assembly of the vehicles. The fitting of the fuel tank, pipework and whatever leaves these expensive parts of the engine very vulnerable to contamination during factory production and the PSF is there to protect the transfer suction pump part of the main fuel pump. We find that after 20-30,000 miles they tend to block up and cause white smoke, low power and misfire at higher revs, and we invariably discard them in favour of the main fuel filter. If you can provide me with the pump part number as stamped on the side panel of the pump I can look up their part numbers for you and we can check out the availability of these parts. There you go, great contact indeed, very grateful am i Thumbs up!

And the annoying thing is that I have spent over £500 on it! trying to sort it and getting nowhere! now i have a 53 plate ranger I bought which also let me down 3 mins after buying! new crankcase pulley and cambelt later (my money just blows away in the gentle breeze!) I have decided i don't want the ranger, and am determined to finish the Mazda, so now have to stick the ranger up for sale to try and claw back some of my losses, not a good start to the year at all, but hey! Chin up, sticking out as far as I can until something else comes along and kicks me hard in the face again!
but I'm not bitter! ........... no! really........ I'm not! (well..... maybe just......)
