Has anyone on here done this?
Ive done it same way as everyone else, bridged pins 2-3 an wired up to a potentiometer.
But when i turn the potentionmeter instead of giving a rough idle it just kills the car?
Any help appreciated!

£75 for the chip? It's got to be a better way.

Assuming it's wired up correctly try upping the boost before adding more fuel, should help it burn better. I agree with welshpug though, this doesn't have the same effect as winding up a mechanical diesel pump, it just raises fuelling by a set amount throughout the rev range, so your EGTs will start going through the roof unless the turbo pressure is properly matched to it (something a remapped chip will control for you). That's not to say it won't work mind, just keep an eye on EGTs when turning everything up and remember more fuel = more heat, more boost should drop the EGT a bit but in turn puts more stress on everything.

you don't need to do anything to the boost to get 175 bhp, just fit the chip, no wanky idle or excessive smoke, just improved power and better economy.
you'll get about 180 if you empty the cat out too.

It already has a straight piped stainless steel system and EGR delete mate.
I put a boost gauge in it the other day as obviously before playing its best to keep an eye on it, since doing so me an my mate reckon the boost has been turned up slightly already as it peaks at around 15 psi, and from what i can find out standard boost on these seem to be around 12-14.
The next port of call is a decent front mount intercooler, but i know what your saying about EGT's mate, thats why I'm trying to do it in stages if that makes sense? once ive done it bit by bit i know its their and ready to use, obviously without going to far as the standard pump is only good for about 190-200bhp.
Information on modifications for the M51 diesel engine seems very limited though like its some sort of secret society haha!
Though i am trying to play it out on a very small budget as me an the misses are currently looking for somewhere to live.

thats mainly because nobody mods them.
bung the chip in, easy 180 bhp without getting your hands dirty.
its not a bad engine but the om beats it hands down for tuning, the later 3.0 diesels are the ones to go for if you want to tune a bmw diesel.

From what I've read the major limiting factors are the head and the inline fuel pump. Basically the fuel pump can't supply enough fuel to get the engine past 5000rpm, and even if it could the cast internals and head couldn't take the power without cracking.

Oh my god, best £75 I evaaaar spent. Seriously. Do this. My E34 was awful, horrible and a pig to work on. This chip made it so much different I still kept it for 2 years.

Ok so slighty diffrent to what i was after but ill flow with it haha!
What are peoples GENUINE thoughts on the chip?
I mainly want abit more low end as power as below boost mine is absolute dog poo...
But its boosting at 16 psi? I know this isnt standard boost so maybe i already have a chip and someones upped it slightly?

its much better all round, hard to tell really as mine is an auto but it holds 5th much more readily and its better on fuel.
if youre looking for epic low end and mid range its the wrong bmw diesel for you though, you want the 3.0

Mine did jack curse word below 2K,
With the end tuning chip it also did jack curse word below 2K.
At 2K with the chip it went wild. My butt dyno said 200hp between 2K and 3.5K.
But that's probably just me being excited about the wall of torque it produced.

Another minus for the every mod. Tried it on an Audi, and sure it went well enough but it idled like a total curse word. Considering the chip is that cheap there is no reason not to. I'm all for a bodge that works if the alternative is mad expensive. This reminds me I need to dig out the chip I have around here somewhere for my M51 engined Omega and fit it! Keep loosing the bloody thing.
