Hey, advertising this for my buddy, if you are interested then his name is Trevor, his contact details are in the huge description below!!
"For sale: my 1984 B-registered 3 door Vauxhall Astra MK1
I have owned this car for around 3 years and have owned my other MK1 Astra GTE which was my first car for 28 years so I know these cars inside out
Lots of receipts, history and original service history booklet
Engine: C20LET 2.0 16v turbo from Calibra fully rebuilt, PJ-type ECU never been opened
Gearbox: F28 6-speed with 2WD blanking plate
Equal length driveshafts with intermediate bearing
Magnex stainless steel exhaust with custom downpipe and flamer kit (needs new control unit as the old one was curse word and died)
Suspension: Spax PSX 28-point adjustable spring and damper kit, front upper strut brace, GTE front and rear anti-roll bars
Brakes: 256mm 2.0 front brakes and ATE callipers, Cavalier rear disc beam axle (30mm wider)
15” steel wheels with 195/50x15 Dunlop DZ-03G semi-slick tyres (worn)
Full GTE running gear inc. steering rack, anti-roll bars, GTE front Recaro seats and matching rear bench it’s basically a GTE which looks like your granddad’s shopping car with a turbo conversion
Shell has done around 68K miles genuine it is registered on the V5 as an Astra 2.0 turbo one of the best original shells I have ever seen it has never been welded apart from one small patch on the scuttle panel and new rear arches the floor is mint
I know the history of the car and can put you in contact with previous owners if necessary
The car has been a C20LET for probably the last 10 years it has had several different C20LET engines I know of this one was fitted by the previous owner along with the 6-speed F28 gearbox
The current engine was rebuilt by the previous owner I have no proof of this however I have had the engine apart and pistons and bores etc looked very good indeed you can still see the honing marks we have fitted a new head fully rebuilt with new valves guides and seats etc. it is non-Coscast but it has been modified by Courtenay with a bypass mod (there is an aeroquip hose running outside the head and the original channel that goes porous has been blocked off) along with new Continental timing belt it literally has had a lot of new parts fitted over the last year and basically hasn’t been used since then
It has an XE inlet cam and modified cam pulley to retard the timing half a tooth this is a well known mod also has TXautosport lightweight single alternator pulley and intake pipe (both pretty much new)
Fuel economy is very good for a fast car this car runs on fresh air compared to most modern stuff as it weighs around 900kg and the engine has a very easy life pulling something around half the weight you genuinely get the best of both worlds it is easy to drive and shockingly fast when you want it to be and makes mincemeat of traffic it is well over 300bhp/tonne
On track the car holds up very well against modern stuff especially with sticky semi-slick tyres such as Toyo R888 or Dunlop DZ-03G
Car comes on steel wheels which are original style but 15” rather than 13” and is currently on Dunlop DZ-03G’s which have some life left in them for a track session but are too worn to be legal for road use now
Car has been garaged since July 2016
MOT is expired but passed last time no problem
Cheap road tax
This is not a project car as such it is a complete car which I was using until it developed a running problem. I have traced this after a lot of time and effort to a contaminated fuel tank so the fuel tank needs removing and cleaning professionally and I would also advise replacing the fuel lines because why wouldn’t you I have basically replaced everything else
I have fitted new Escort RS turbo spark plugs, new leads, new rotor arm, also replaced distributor cap, fuel filter and tested everything else using parts swapped from my GTE which is also a C20LET and I am confident this is the problem
Paint-wise the floor inside is mint, on the outside it is presentable although it’s several different shades of China blue and could do with a respray if you wanted to show it however I took it to several car shows and it was still much admired it is on the end of this video of Tunerfest 2015 at Oulton Park:
Bad points:
Paint is wack
Glass needs taking out and putting back in as the seals are starting to leak
There is a large dent in the driver’s door, it comes with a new door ready to fit which was given to me by the previous owner which I never got around to fitting
Turbo seals are starting to go, it drives fine and boosts properly, doesn’t smoke on acceleration and doesn’t smoke on overrun doesn’t smoke at all when driving but if left idling for more than a few minutes sometimes smokes it’s also fond of launching oil down the inlet
If I was keeping the car I would fit a reconditioned turbo either standard or hybrid KKK or GT28R or TD05 and just enjoy it
This is a properly maintained car which I have spent an awful lot of time and money on the car is known and so am I and other MK1 owners will probably vouch for myself and the car
I have another MK1 turbo which is never going to get finished while I own this and the car is not being used at the moment anyway and is going to waste it needs to be enjoyed
Good home wanted
This is at Cadwell Park on standard Continental ContiSport road tyres 195/50x15 with the car at standard boost 210bhp I wasn’t driving flat-out as I hadn’t been round there in years and the car has no rollcage it is much faster on decent tyres:
This is with 1.2bar (around 260-270bhp) and Toyo R888 tyres. To give you some idea of the potential of the car, the black GTR you see at the beginning of the first lap around 2 minutes in is a stage 5 Litchfield tuned car owned by my friend Zee and is well over 800bhp:
Here is a video of the car launching rather large flames on the dyno at RE Performance in Bury. It made 270bhp on 1.2 bar of boost:
Car is located in Prestwich, Manchester and needs collecting with a trailer or transporter
