General notes
I’ve owned this car since September 2015, and purchased is as a desire to try classic motoring. I cycle to work and have indoor storage, so this only sees the road on dry days. I think for this reason it’s not significantly degraded in my ownership. On the days it does go out, it gets a lot of waves and attention, generally raising a lot of smiles. It puts a smile on my face to drive, and is generally very engaging compared with modern vehicles. Ultimately the reason for sale is all available funds are needed for a house deposit. Unfortunately it looks like I’ll be going into bangernomics to fund the house purchase.
MOT expires 07/10/2017. Advisories were silencer mounting deteriorated (since replaced) and parking brake lever has little reserve travel since fixed by winding the drum adjusters out correctly - I forgot this when re-assembling the drums!
Engine and Transmission
Engine completely rebuilt during restoration– incredibly smooth running and starts 1st time every time with choke. No hot restarting issues. Video available to demonstrate smooth running and cold start.
Will rev cleanly with no dead spots, no idea what rpm it will go to as never gone near it, but it will happily sit at 60mph on the road, and push on above 70mph indicated if required. I’ve not gone above this but it’s still pulling.
Coolant hoses replaced in their entirety in 2015 due to cracking or perishing with age.
Unleaded head, so additive has been used on every tank fill – some to come with the car which will last about 2000 miles.
Transmission is fine, no jumping out of gears, no strange noises, reverse is easily found.
Clutch hydraulics were recently re-bled and the bleed port moved to top of slave cylinder to correctly bleed. The clutch itself works fine with no noise or slipping. Some judder when cold only.
Starts & runs very well.
No smoke
There may be a tiny drip of oil, but consumption is negligible – not measurable on the dipstick.
Stainless steel silencer and solid exhaust system throughout.
Engine mounts changed <1 year ago.
Exhaust
Stainless steel silencer / back box with new rubber hanger
Good condition throughout
Ignition System
Spark plugs are recently changed at a service – weren’t required though.
Standard dizzy, points and coil, not electronic ignition
Battery condition is very good – no issues cranking.
Shafts and Differential
Standard open differential
Tiny weepage of oil from main seal, but level topped up in April and in September it was still at the fill level. No dripping on garage floor. Seal in spares pack.
Half shaft UJs recently replaced due to wear.
Suspension
Trunnions have been greased every fortnight that the car has been used.
There’s controversy over whether grease or oil is best. The car came to me greased, and with a religious greasing regime I see no reason for this to be any less good (if not better) than oiling.
Camber shims are available with the sale to reduce front camber. Currently appears to be slightly positive at static ride height.
Brakes + Tyres
Discs front, drums rear. Recently flushed and bled with new fluid.
Pad condition is good , drum condition fine, low wear.
Tyres in good condition with >5mm tread all round. No cracking and hold pressure fine.
Chassis
Great condition with no bubbling rust on main chassis, subframes or outriggers.
Chassis was waxoyled when restored and has been maintained since.
See images for best representation of condition to judge for yourself.
Bodywork
Boot top runner to rear quarter on RHS is starting to corrode and has begun to let water into the boot. This combined with the aerial means that the boot area does show some surface rust. The carpet has been removed to investigate and attempt to contain this, but no further progress has been made as the car is stored indoors and generally driven in the dry only.
Floor pan internal condition in driver and passenger footwell is good with minimal to no surface rust.
Roof welding seams showing some bleed of rust on surface due to paint cracking, but no structural issues.
Restoration in circa 2009 clearly replaced quite a lot of rust, so there are welded panels visible when you look underneath, and the welds haven’t been dressed/ground back to be invisible. However, they’ve been treated and painted and are therefore structurally sound.
The only exception to this is on the underside around the throttle pedal area – one crack has appeared (never noticed until recently) which I’ve treated around to slow it down. This was done with Loctite Rust remedy, a black spray of tetrosyl underseal paint, followed by a light coating in wedgewood blue recently. This will need fixing eventually, but doesn’t cause an issue today.
Paintwork is Triumph Wedgewood Blue with an English white roof. The paint job is dull over most of the blue, scratched in places (looks like previous owner attempted to polish back aggressively) and would benefit from a respray.
Some paint cracks and surface rust bleed through in the following locations:
RR wheel arch
RL wheel arch
Boot lid to quarter-light joints (as mentioned above) both sides
Door condition
Drivers door is showing very early signs of corrosion, and paint has rubbed through in a couple of places
Passenger side door is reasonable condition.
Chrome work is slightly pitted all over, but not corroding through anywhere.
Interior
Interior is in superb condition for the age of car
New condition carpets
Seats are in very good condition, only a small (<2in) tear in drivers at seam.
Dash is in good condition and looks the part
No rear seatbelts fitted.
Moto-lita steering wheel which looks fantastic and is lovely to hold
Stereo and speakers fitted.
Electric pump for the washer was fitted and there’s an additional switch in the dash for this. The original wiper switch is still used to drive the wipers.
Heater blower works fine and demists the screen.

Google album with additional photo's is available on request.
