Ok so I have a vintage pioneer ke-1300 car stereo which has only 2 channels left and right, and is very low power by today's standards, I've got some new speakers which are a lot more powerful then the old ford ones so I would like to fit an amp, the speakers are 30watt rms each so what amp will I need and how do I wire the amp then go from a two channel stereo to a 4 channel amp or do I need a 2 channel amp and wire two speakers to each channel? Damn I'm so confused lol

Assuming you want to end up with 4 speakers, find yourself a 4x50w Max amp and use that. Wiring will be very simple, especially if you have pre-outs on the stereo itself?

Yes I want to end up with 4 speakers, no the stereo doesn't have pre outs, just left and right with a shared ground

Then you need a 4x50w amp that accepts high level inputs. You will obviously need to split the common earth into 2.

Ok thank you, and what about the stereo only having two channels? Will that still work ok with a four Chanel amp

If you are just using the front two channels yes it will but of course the rear channels won't do anything on most 4 channel amps.
Your other choice would be to get a HU with RCA outputs.

You can bridge two channels to 4, provided you know what impedance the amp is expecting and the output of your stereo. Some amps even have a bridging kit with them.

Use a line level converter, this will allow you to connect a pair of rca's to your existing speaker outputs on the headunit. Then use a pair of 'y' splitters, this will give you four channels to your amp.
