Ok apologies if ive put this in the wrong section or if there is a previous post (i couldnt find one).
I'm thinking of getting some cctv for my garage at the bottom of the garden. I'm pretty clueless but not stupid.
What should i be looking for?
What do people have and whats your reviews? Both good and bad. Any reccommendations? Anything i should steer clear of?
Ebay is awash with all sorts and ive seen some deals at maplins and b&q etc.
Ideally id like it be recordable to a dvr, have at least 4 cameras with the option to add more, i don't have a smartphone but id like to access it from the internet or ipad and id also like night vision cameras.
Tell me more!!!!!

I have a system from maplins - 4 cameras, dvr and can be viewed via internet - itdoes the job perfectly well and was easy to set up. Go for a 960h system as the quality is a bit better.

I too have a system from Maplins, Swann? I think the name is. Another vote of confidence from me, easy to install and set up, good picture quality and playback.

Surely there are masses of power cables running everywhere to power the cameras?

Lots of cables but you can get wifi kits. If you use cables don't forget to cover plugs with self amalgamating tape or similar to keep the damp out the joints/connetions.

I got a Swann system on my house. The DVR needs an erthanet cable so would need to run one from the router in your house up to the garage. Easy to set up. Has night vision. Works well. This is the ones I have www.ebay.co.uk/itm/252664243010

Just done an install at work. If you use Baluns you just need to run Cat5 between the DVR and the camera. Basically these send power and video down a CAT5 (network) cable and change back at either end. Good for about 70 metres from what we installed. You do need to be able to terminate RJ45 plugs but not too hard even for colour blind gimps like me. Baluns here, or can get in Maplins

If you use IP camera's you can use a POE switch and then you can just run cat5/6 from the switch to the camera. Buy a 305m drum of cable, a rj45 tool and your good to go. A few guys at work have CCTV set ups using IP camera's, PC with free software to record and a VPN to remote to the system from their phone. The camera's they run are 1080p and record in that as well, will add what make they use when it comes to be Hikvision, thats the one - it's about £90 per dome camera though & they are very good in low light as they have infra red LED's at work at up to 30m range. These are what they are using, I was surprised just how good quality they are, really sturdy casing & very clear image. www.ebay.co.uk/itm/H-265-New-Hikvision-4MP-IP-CCTV-Camera-DS-2CD3145F-I-PoE-Network-Multi-Language-/162334017821?hash=item25cbdc891d:g:~L0AAOSw5cNYYL2-The one above isnt a pan & tilt like this video, but quality is the same: Cant tell you much more about any of it as I haven't started mine yet, but I can tell you I have just installed 600m of cat6 network cable in a 3 bed semi lol. Bonus vid, if you have an unlimited budget these are amazing, we apparently have 5 of these at work:
