Inspired in no small part by a few notable Micras on here I picked up this beautiful example of late 90s Kei engineering for the price of a pair of my fancy running shoes last weekend... OOOOHHH...adjustable steering column a desirable option... AAAAHHH...1.3 litres and 16valves only barely broken in at 101k... HNNNG...leccy windows for that smooooooth fresh air... URRRHHHH...GX spec, not pop spec...Glyn Hopkin know their motahs GIFFERTASTIC! ...and I'm spent. There will be wheels, there will be lows (got Corsa rear shocks already, Alto rear springs all round on order), and no doubt plenty of other silly J-tat to follow...

Please bring my jalfrezi. K thx. Waiting in for my new springs to arrive, started to tackle a few very common jobs... £6.99's worth of Halfrauds spray paint - colour-coding the bump strips makes a huuuuge difference Also decided to do away with the side bump strips - again a pretty common 'mod' Yes, the wheels in there are destined for this car - but need my swagtunernutz to arrive first. Oh dear...what happened here Nissan? Have heard some stories of Nissan sticking these on when the paint hadn't cured - reckon that's what happened here? Do I just leave it - or sand it back and try to respray & blend in that section...given that my paintwork skills are shocking? Other side looks better underneath - still left with a tonne of sticky glue residue. Started working on it with white spirit / tar remover / etc. but gave up and ordered a caramel paint stripe wheel. Should be with me on Thursday. 'Autoglass cover comes as standard sir'

+1 giffer points for poor parking ;-) Progress this afternoon has been slow because... 1) The 4 coil springs I ordered are coming separately. 2 pairs, to be precise. Allegedly I should have the missing two by tomorrow, Thursday latest. 2) Check out my purple billet tow hook! Yep - that's got to go back as well... Managed to match in the rear bump strips... Much mask...very magazine...wow... ...and then lost light by half 4. Believe me when I say that they match pretty well but the moisture in the air may leave a 'questionable' finish come morning. Also had a very, very trial fit (as in the current 21mm nuts won't go in the holes) of my wheels - don't think they'll look too shabby after a proper scrub. And a significant drop. The centre bore is big enough to fit on the Mazda so they slide right over the hub - but despite this they have piddly little centre caps (37mm ish?) that need replacing but I've no idea where to source replacements...? Tomorrow all things being equal - and if this storm hasn't hit - we fit hooj choons.

I was hoping this would make an appearance at some point...I've read and reread the build thread for your Micra Mark and your attention to detail is immense - and no doubt better than mine. If I can produce something even 10% as cool as that I'll be happy :-)

In true tried and tested style I've been doing busy work - and by 'busy' I mean starting one job, half finishing and then starting another one. Was only going to replace the front speakers and amp them but thought I'd have a look in the rear parcel shelf pods. Mmm...papery Spent a good hour or so fashioning MDF speaker rings to support a spare set I had kicking around...only to find that the rings made the speakers sit too high and the grilles warped over them. So I botched it instead. I can't seem to put my hands on my Billy Ray Cyrus cassette tapes, so the deck had to go. Replaced with a not-at-all-incongruous shiny Panasonic number that I had lying around in a box of tat. I wasn't even sure if it worked. It does! And the chromed buttons add an extra level of bling. Yes that is an Aux in! Quite pleased so far...all of the above bits were lying around the garage, so this particular part of the job hasn't cost me a penny yet. Should finish replacing the front speakers and running all the cabling tomorrow. Also, the other two springs arrived! So if I get lucky I might get on to fitting them too...

So in order to get rid of the sticky residue left from the bump strips I employed one of these: Which seemed to do the job...until I looked closer... Not sure how clear it is...but there's definitely some marking of the paint underneath. I kept the revs low, but it still didn't help. This is AFTER 2 or 3 passes with a random orbit rotary and Farecla G3. Will try again when I wash the car next... So a trip to Halfords and £4 later... Absolutely top drawer stuff - worked better than brake cleaner, meths, petrol, tar remover...the works. Still took a good hour to sort out the other side... This isn't even my fault. I blame Sunderland Undeterred we move on...modern sounds... JDM as F@ckyo (Despite being the wrong colour the Ebayer in question refunded me AND let me keep it - sweet! Trila fitting of 'new' wheels (flat tyres for MOAR LOWZ). Definitely marmite, need a lot of work doing and at least two tyres are scrap. Lot of corrosion, not much kerbing though. I smell some win though. So here's how she sits currently: Cleaner lines, WAY too high (but lowering stick beating afoot) and in need of a good wash but progress has been made.

I like how those 3 spokes look, I think they'd be good with it lower...

I like how those 3 spokes look, I think they'd be good with it lower... Yeah, I picked them up for pennies outside of a well-known auction site...thinking of sanding down and going for a garish bright colour. Lows should be sorted by the end of this week...I've had top nut troubles...

The three spokes look well. I'd sack off the other alloys pronto, in favour of them.

I'm no fan of the shiny Team Dynamics, but the 3 spokes will take a fair amount of work first. Had the TDs kicking around tho. Finally got lowered...a half day job became a bit more complicated than it should have been :-( The Corsa B shock lower crush tubes were too narrow. Trying to drill them out only forced the tubes out of the bushes and I didn't have a drill powerful enough, or a drill bit wide enough, to drill the tubes out anyway. Cue a load of faffing to remove the crush tubes from the original K11 bushes and waiting for some polybushes to arrive from eBay - eventually fitted them all back together this morning and onto the Micra! But we're there! Also swapped out the rear numberplate lights for LEDs...and eBay special exhaust tip for +5BHP Might have to look at getting an adjustable panhard rod - or at least a 5mm spacer on the nearside - not sure if it's clear in the picture but the axle has shifted to the right a wee bit: Gotta love them 2000s animations - graphic equaliser moves up and down yo!

Like the plans for the three spokes should look goood now it's lowered.
If you still got paint leftover from the bumpers, I would give the door handles a spray of silver.

Which reminds me, I need to order a new drivers side door handle as the current one is ever-so-slightly cracked (but enough for an MOT advisory).
It'll be easier off the car ;-)
