Hi all, I'm new to the forum, been nosing on here for a while at different projects and for sale posts and now have my own retro ride. Picked myself up a mk2 Fiesta L 1.1 4 speed at the weekend, came across it on a Facebook Fiesta owners page and struck a deal. It's been dry stored for 16 years, I'm assuming off the road for most of that. The seller inherited it from his uncle a few years ago and decided it was time to get her on the road and for sale. He serviced the engine and braking system, replacing the rear brake cylinders, and put 2 new tyres on and put it through an MOT. It passed with one advisory of a small chip in the windscreen! Being as it had MOT I thought rather than spend money on having it transported from near Canterbury to Colchester, for the same money I could insure it and drive it home! The seller had done around 60 miles on back roads and lanes to test the brakes so this seemed a good enough test for me to drive home. A mate drove me down there and after we had a chat and I handed some money over I set off for home, 60mph all the way home and she didn't skip a beat! Non stop about 2 hours driving. Temp gauge normal all the way. Has a few little niggles to deal with, a judder at low speeds and a hesitant idle but nothing too bad for the age. The car itself is a 1.1 OHV with a 4 speed box, has a sunroof and glovebox. That's about as far as the spec goes. It's only covered 69,000 miles which I believe is genuine and it's only had 3 previous owners. It has the normal small dents and scratches around the car as to be expected but its a really honest little car, and the best part is there's almost no rust, only a small area on the bottom of one rear arch, making it a great Base for me to start my project!

Short term is get it driving abit better, got some rs accessory wheels and pepper pots so one of those sets will go on and maybe lower it. Long term I've got a 1.6 cvh and 5 speed box to go in, also an xr2 body kit and full respray. It's going to be an ongoing project for a while.

That's EXACTLY the same spec as my first car was 20 years ago.

Same colour as my first one 15 years ago too (mine was a pop+ so no fancy extras like the highspec dash). That's where it all began lol. I've always fancied another blue one.

Yep, the high spec clock in the dash, complete with second hand. I quite like the blue, it's very much a colour of the time. Although eventually it will change colour, planning to go imperial blue.

I had an E reg 'L' in white - 1.4 cvh engine and 5speed. (L had the 'high spec' dash too by this time). Used to thrash the balls off it for 12 years with no complaints, sadly not a good ending - was getting too rusty by 2002 so I sold it to a dodgy yoof who promptly trashed and dumped it up on the moors! Of course I got the police knocking as it was still in my name...

So I drove the Fiesta to work earlier on in the week as I wanted to get it on the ramp to see if its as goo underneath as I was told, turns out it was! the inner sills are solid so are the chassis legs, floor pans and rear valance. It also has what looks like a nearly new exhaust from the manifold back.
While on the ramp we found the cause of the juddering and noise at low speeds is flat spots on the front tyres from where it had sat for a while, so it looks like I may be putting a set of alloys on sooner than expected as there's no point buying tyres for the steels to take them off again at a later point. Just need to dig the wheels out of my mums shed and give them a quick refurb, a job for the new year.
I also had a couple of favors from work mates, one adjusted the carburetor to improve the idle, also adjusted the mixture using the emissions computer, it worked really well and ran a lot better but when I got home the idle seemed a bit hesitant and slow so think I will adjust this a little more now that I have an idea of what I'm doing. another workmate bled the brakes for me as they seemed a bit spongy and poor, even for an old car, this made a difference and braking is now much improved.
It was good to have a thorough look over the car and have other people look too as they didn't have my rose tinted glasses on. All in all I'm really happy with the car and its going to be a great base for what I'm planning, and the bonus is that it can be a running and driving project that I can enjoy while modifying. Also it looks like I wont have to spend hours and hours repairing rust like most of the mk1 and mk2 fiestas suffer with.

Well not much happened over Christmas and early January on the fiesta, but last weekend I rooted through the garage and the shed at my mums to find some goodies I had stored there from an xr2 about 8 years ago. The main thing I was looking for was a set of 13" ford rs accessory wheels 7 spoke. Found them at the back of the shed in better condition than I had remembered, good stuff! But I couldn't find the centre caps, this meant I had to hunt through the garage, in the process of looking for the centre caps I found the old xr2 shocks and springs, so they've come home and will be going on soon. Also found the xr shafts that I thought I had scrapped so that was a bonus. I eventually found the centre caps in the garage loft, and while up there had a quick nose at the other bits I had and I think I have all the major parts I need for what I have planned. So on Monday I took the wheels into work and removed the tyres as all but one were old and perished or worn. Then yesterday ordered up a new set of yokohama a539's and decided to start repairing and blasting the wheels ready for primer. Unfortunately our grit blaster is abit asthmatic at the moment so it's taking longer than I'd like. But one wheel is done and another on the way.

Well abit more progress on the wheels today, more blasting done, but it's a long boring process. But today I came home and these had been delivered So I'm hoping to get the wheels in primer this week and prepped and painted next week. Seeing the fresh tyres has spurred me on abit.

I like the direction this is going. RS 7 spokes look great on mk2's and the Yoko's are an awesome tyre too. Keep posting..... it may actually spur me on to do something with one of mine!

I'll try and keep the updates coming!
I've got a 1.6 cvh to go in it, don't really want to go down the zetec route, nothing against them just fancy the cvh instead, plus I already had one.
