Hi all.
I'm after a truck, but I'm not finding what I want, so wondered if anyone knew of good places (Other than the really obvious like eBlag/Autotrader etc) or dealers to look at.
I really want a good-looking 12ish tonne truck with a 24-26ft 8ft high box on the back. I'd like it to be old enough to have a manual pump, so I don't need a dealer to fix it, and low enough mileage that I won't have to either... Top of the list is a Volvo FL6, as they're a handsome truck when they've got a visor and the low bumper on.
Any ideas?

The closest I've found so far is this one. Looks good to me, but some burke's cut the off the chassis, so it'll need work, which I'd like to avoid, and then i'll need to put the box on it, but it does look good... Maybe with a proper Aussie-style roo bar on it

Hi all. I'm not finding what I want, so wondered if anyone knew of good places (Other than the really obvious like eBlag/Autotrader etc) or dealers to look at. Any ideas? No, sorry. But the sort of age you are looking at will be outside the usual working life of lorries, so ebay/autotrader might be the best place. I really fancy an FL7 artic dray wagon. No idea why, they just appeal to me. Or a 90s Foden with a Cummins N14 in it. I have spent most of my working life around trucks, and I cant think of a better looking puddle jumper than those little Volvos. Picture borrowed from Google, Bartletts always ran (still do?) beautiful Volvos.

You could ask over on www.trucknet.co.uk someone on there may be able to help or failing that try the truck breakers/exporters in the likes of commercial motor mag

No idea on where to look, but you mean 'mechanical injection' not 'manual pump'. Those volvos are good looking wagons though. I expect photos when you find something. Truck lyfe and all that

Cheers guys! I'll have a look at Trucknet. That's a pretty little truck!
"Manual pump" is definitely the way I've seen it described in all the ads I've looked at. I know that mechanical injection is what it is, but I just went with the phrasing that all the adverts use.

Anyway, good luck with your search. I know for one thing if I had the relevant license I'd constantly be looking for stuff like this:

Damn you, that's what I've been trying to ignore! The thing that best fits my needs is the Bedford TM 6x6, but it damn sure doesn't best suit my budget! I want a 24ft box at least, as I want to build a proper living vehicle - bedroom, kitchen/living room with quite a bit of seating, wet room/toilet, and a little workshop at the back. Most of the military stuff doesn't have a long enough chassis to have that long a box on the back, and the things that do are so enormous that they're hugely impractical - ask me how I know!

My mates have got volvo F10's for shows and one tows a 24ft trailer converted into living quarters it's a lot more comfortable at the shows than kipping in tents etc.

I know for one thing if I had the relevant license I'd constantly be looking for stuff like this: There was one on ebay a while back with a box body on it for radio/communication. It was in Poland but the seller would help with shipping, he had loads of Eastern military vehicular porn. It was actually very affordable, it had a flathead V8 petrol engine in it. Which wouldn't be. Back on topic, hozwabout a Merc?

ZIL131 radio bodies are actually surprisingly common in this country for what they are. They were made in the thousands and they still appear for sale from surplus pretty regularly! The v8 is.. Thirsty..

^^^^I didn't know that. I was loking for an ex-MOD Landy at the time and thought it was tremendous value for money £/kg wise, or offroad ability wise, or just plain badass wise. Not so much in the fit-down-the-side-of-the-house wise.
Sorry, going a bit off-topic..

Strangely, I just don't really like Merc trucks... I know they'll do a gazillion miles if looked after, but there's something about that era that just doesn't compute with me. Those little Volvos can look so good if they're done right, I'm having a hard time considering much else. Apart from ruskie monster trucks that is... But I can't work out how to make an affordable one do all that I want!
