EQUIPMENT
Rigid safety cell passenger compartment, impact absorbing crumple zones, underbody and wheel housing protection, safety steering wheel with Wolfsburg Crest, child safety locks, window demisters, chrome bumpers with plastic mouldings, safety inner door handles, safety interior mirror, courtesy light, parking lights, emergency light function, temperature gauge, warning instrumentation. Factory options; Metallic paint. Dealer options; Ziebart treatment, seatbelts.
EXTERIOR
This incredibly rare Mk1 Passat remains totally unspoilt and showcases remarkable originality. The factory Ancona Blue Metallic (code L97B), a cost option from new, displays a beautiful deep shine and uniform finish that defies its age. The vehicle has been garaged all its life. All trim sections, lights, rubbers and badges are incredibly well preserved. The Ziebart plug holes remain as evidence to the original owner’s forward thinking, knowing perhaps that he were to keep the car for 35 years! The supplying dealer pressed number plates, rear screen sticker and Ziebart sticker remain attached. Even the running in schedule is still affixed in the windscreen! This humble base model Passat is a fantastic testament to Volkswagen build quality, and puts emphasis on just how far the latest variant has come. Hugely nostalgic.
INTERIOR
The dual tone Houndstooth cloth upholstery in Tan is fully commensurate with the low 25,207 miles covered and will delight perfection seeking individuals. All controls and gauges housed within the pristine fascia work seamlessly with a quality engineered feel. The slim safety steering wheel proudly displays the Wolfburg Crest and is virtually as new. Only tiny areas of discoloration to the headlining around the B pillars are worthy of mention. Just as Volkswagen intended and in immaculate order, the original rubber matting to the passenger compartment was protected by the first long term owner with carpet cut outs and the clean boot area has the original jack present. It is very clear to see why Volkswagen’s quality and finish was the envy of car makers at the time, and this Mk1 Passat epitomes this notion perfectly.
ENGINE & TRANSMISSION
This Passat is fitted with the four cylinder 1296cc engine with an overhead camshaft producing 60bhp at 5800rpm. This economical option achieves a top speed of 92mph and sales literature quotes 0-50 in 11 seconds. The beautifully clean engine bay is totally standard and original with VW/Audi panel stampings along with many genuine VW/Audi Group parts which are clear to see. The four speed all syncromesh gearbox is precise and a joy to use.
WHEELS, TYRES & BRAKES
The standard styled perforated wheels with drop-centre rims of size 4½J x 13 remain in fantastic order and are shod all round in Goodyear 155/80 R13 tyres. Diagonal dual circuit brakes incorporate discs to the front and offer assured stopping power as you would expect from this safety conscious manufacturer.
HISTORY FILE
Supplied new by Volkswagen Main Dealers, Bristol Street Motors Ltd of Nottingham on the 14th October 1975, an original new car order form and sales invoice made out to first keeper Mr Louis Tyacke outlines a purchase price of £1.964.42 including options extra of metallic paint (£36.87) and seat belts (£26.00). Incredibly, Mr Tyacke remained the sole keeper for 35 years until his passing in 2010 whereby ownership of his pride and joy transferred to his sister, Mrs Eunice Swift.
The remarkably low mileage of 25,207 miles is supported by the original service book containing solely Volkwagen Main Dealer stamps, the most recent being in 2014 at 25,139 miles. Furthermore, the large history folder contains previous MOT certificates and supporting documentation. The vehicle instruction manual, original blue V5 registration document and a Mk1 Passat sales brochure completes the superb history file. Built to last and very well maintained by the fastidious and devoted owner, the correct recipe for this cars longevity.
MOT November 2017, HPI Clear.
