Sup fools, Been having a great time reading all of you posts, ( Mr xb0ll0x your a one of a kind, a week of reading there!!) Hoping to make the most of the talented minds in here, So i though i should introduce you all to the current heard along with my disregard for financial logic and good practice. I'm bait of a novice so hear goes. after swanning around in an 04 Mercedes c180 compressor, Mrs space goat said 'your getting boring, you need another banger' she spacificly asked for a daddy Malcom Meet Malcolm my first ride So after some searching I found this Came from a really nice family near Aberystwyth, all the kids had moved out and the chief had finished rebuilding his flower mill. after asking "whats wrong with the van, the kind miller would name an item then nock some money off the asking price". after the easiest negotiation of my life we settled for £1000. The engine was more of a steam/smoke generator, sadly I wasn't equipped to perform an engine swap at the time so this was shipped off to a local VW "specialist" (F00k3n Crooks!!!!!!!!!!!! see 1 star review ) once i got it back first mission, bumpers and wheels Mrs space goat and I thought we should do some vanning, in in typical VW style this is how that went couple of weeks before a road trip around the coast of Ireland 2500 on the coast road and in a week, the van didn't let us down. What a beautiful country day before a trip around the coast of Scotland other then that, its been an awesome bus, have done over 30,000 miles in the past 18 months, and have properly enjoyed every one of them! Plenty more drama here... will update soon

Good to have another Volvo Hot Rodder on board. What are your plans for the car? I started my journey looking for a 122 wagon just like yours and ended up with this: It is a bit of a restomod.

Glad to see so many T25 fans out there. bjornagn: I want to give he amazon a clean look. Ditch the over riders, PV wheels trims and caps, White walls, roof rack and lower it slightly. Manly as people though I had bought a hearse! I'll lower it abit. I'm sure astronaut will agree the roads around here are hardly bulavard smooth. whats your plans for the P1800? Here it as found after decades in storage I took some Pics of it when i got it home. Was in two minds wether to leave it as a Rat or do it up. after a couple of weeks, I caved in and shipped it of for body work and paint job. I admire how people can do there own body work, I don't have the experience and don't think i could do the car justice. so this is how it looked after strip down. So: Both wings where rusty but repairable, Both inner wings needed replacing Front door skins Needed replacing A Post needed repair Rear quaters needed repair Rear inner quarters where F**Ked and needed fabricating

Volvo only made 8000 or the ES wagons. I have used up two of them for this project. So, no, cant say as I have seem many. Just wrapping up a restoration of a badly crashed MGB, and will then get back to the Molvo.

whilst body was getting prepped for paint I was getting fed up trying to finding a roof rack, I'm no fabricator but I had just moved into a house that came with a shed and a mig welder, so why not try and make my own. this is what i was shooting for so i bought a load of 22mm 1.5mm wall stainless tube. First job, bend the bars that go over the roof. pair of aces stands and last nights dinner was more then adequate. Next job, bend to form the rails that go front to rear. first attempt did not go well. I ended up renting a conduite bender, Bit of youtube and i discovered even an muggle like me can make pipe joins with basic tools. I found an old tin that was a perfect go-no-go gauge. The welds look like a chicken with hemorroides had visited but they withstood the hammer and 'jump and and down on it' test

Feckin awesome work chap!👍 Thanks dude! Sup Dudes, Heres some pics after the body work was completed. Guys at KJ autospray did a nice job, but as we all know beauty is more the skin deep, and I'm sure you will all agree the engine bay is a mess. I recon re-painting heater fan shroud and a clean and tidy will make a difference. I would also like to move the remote brake servo. then i found a snapped stud in the head, not a bit problem but with my intensions of an engine bay tidy this happened... Iv changed a few clutches and other bits and bobs, but removing the engine and gearbox was a new one on me. Fortunately on the amazon was SURPASSINGLY EASY, and quite enjoyable. The front end un-bolts remove dizzy cap hoses Brake servo wires from + post from the starter, alternator, oil pressor and temp sender. Choke, throttle linkage and fuel line. Finally the 3 nuts that hold the engine and gearbox, yes 3 well oiled nuts. I rented the engine crane for a weekend. only needed 10mins! On closer inspection, the bulk head had suffered more the i had thought, one of the chase legs also needed repair.

The engine is bolted to the cross member, because of this removing the cross member for rebuild is always a pain in the ass, so now the engine is out it would be a good time to change bushes ball joints and shocks. An expensive decision but i hope dealing with it now will pay off. Removing the control arms and cross member when quite well, did have to chop the shocks and are drop links off, but considering the cars age i wasn't surprised. Old bushes out, the body of the bush was fine, they just looked f**ked, I going to go for polly bushes, I polly bushed the van year ago and i'm really happy with how that rides, I have been well reliably informed that quality of rubber replacements are terrible these days and it not worth the effort. I dropped the head off to the machine shop to remove the broken exhaust stud, we spoke about putting hardened valve seats and bigger valves hmmm. I was very pleased to see the honing on the boars and the cam journals where still in good shape. With this in mind i will assume the bottom end is in good shape. (The b18/b20 engines have a similar crank bearing service area as a ford 302 V8) Another "whilst were hear job" was to renew the crank seals, the front had a slight weep but the rear was leaking quite badly , the front was the original felt seal so i assumed the rear would be the same. I had bit of a surprise when i discovered it was a rubber lip seal but had been installed very badly.

That Amazon is some Sexual Chocolate right there!
Shame you got stung there with the engine swap - it's not difficult in these vans by any chalk!! There's a chap near Cardiff, runs Maven Industries, he's pretty good (actually I'm selling him short there!), used to drive around in a roof chopped Amazon, but don't know anyone else in Wales. I'm heavily into VWs and used to have a T25... Currently got a Volksrod on the go (see my build thread). Anyway... Keep it up, buddy!
