I'd love a visa gti, or a tonic/chrono. Tonic/chrono run the same engine and box as the samba rallye - 1360 dual carb etc.

It's effectively a 5dr 1.6 205 GTi.
Always liked the Visa

Wasn't it lighter than the 205 ? If memory serves the road tests said it was a cut price faster 205 GTI Always liked them at the time, kind of said going fast and having fun is more important than being in a nice looking car !

Outstanding things. I don't think Citroen knew how to market them at the time. As said above, a cheaper 205GTi with added doors. Not much difference in weight between the two.

i see a 4x4 one being rallied on belgium quite regularly, I think 1000 pistes was its original intended use, looked like an xu engine like the gti, independent turrets as standard but with a diff and driveshafts hiding under it.

In Portugal we have a special edition called "Bicampeão" I'm in love!! Looks the same as the tonic and chrono (1360 & 3 stud wheels).

loved mine. black 115cv
tiniest little window switches but massive instrument panel with full gauges iirc. front track was a lot wider than the rear which enhanced handling, many reporting it to be superior to the equivalent 205

Super rare things, parts specific to the GTi are near unobtainium. Shame as they are underrated. Saw an immaculate black one at the International Citroen Rally in Holland over the summer.

My mates dad had one years ago, really fast little thing. Sure he said it had a 1.6 in it like a 205 gti.

I had one year's ago that I used for road rallying. It had a 1.9gti engine from a pug, low diff and close ratio gearbox. Accelerated really well and only car I've ever owned that would sit on the rev limiter in top gear. They had a major advantage over the 205 in that they had independent trailing arms with MacPherson struts at the back end. So no weird torsion beam bouncing issues.

205 was trailing arm independent as well, its problem was the overworked dampers running at nigh on 2.5-1 wheel to damper ratio, which is what the Visa addressed with its upright dampers running at 1-1

^ Mantasport What became of it? Not been taxed for last ten years according to Wales. I sold it to a mate back in 2006, he sold it a while later and it went over cumbria way. Not heard anything of it since and its not been taxed since. Which is odd as it was a fully running car with no problems, so didn't really need a re-build.
