6bt would be sticking out the bonnet.. And it literally weighs half a tonne. Leave those for the Landrovers.. So.... When are you fitting one? *n Tbf I look at pics of them in landrovers and go 'hm that doesn't really fit there either'. My 300 still does everything I need it to. It's also got a better top speed than a 4x4 Cummins conversion I'm led to believe. I'd much rather fit a 6BT to a DT or a Ward la France.

OM606 is a better choice I reckon, you can get a huge wodge of power out of them on a manual pump, and they'll fit in an average engine bay. And they weigh less than the rest of the car, even with a gearbox attached!

On account of already having a donor engine

No pictures but the quick and short of it is... -Old engine out and dismantled. It was siezed at the top of the bore, so there wasn't enough moment/pull on the conrod to unstick it by normal means. -Engine bay partially degreased. -Windscreens front and rear out for new rubbers (purchased). Surrounds need minimal work (yay!). -Steering lock stuck on now Will have to investigate. -Chasing a chap in Netherlands for a (stock) rear seat so people can actually fit in it. Thats about it really. I've ordered a bunch of bits and pieces from Germany to help me along. I've been working on another project in the meantime so this hasn't been touched that much. More progress soon I promise. That all sounds superb! Please do furnish us with lots of picture soon... I will be watching closely!!!

Bit late now perhaps but on the subject of seized engine...
Has anyone ever tried hot water? I don't mean into the bores. More like replicating the engine's cooling system.
It would be a major pita on an engine with ancilliaries removed (radiator, water pump etc) but if you could get water into the passageways normally used for cooling and keep it hot that might expand the bores enough to break the seal with the rings.

Being doing some things to try and make this RRG ready...
Does contain some mild swearing... and I complain about being tired a lot haha.
Will do some actual words and pictures here, probably post RRG.

There are instructions on the gate of the campsite that if you don't arrive in this you are to be made to sleep in another field on your own and think about what you've done (or haven't done).

RRG2017 - some words in the order they come out of my brainium... MOT achieved on Monday after the brake master cylinder gave up the ghost on the way to the MOT. Luckily Speedy Spares in Brighton had one on the shelf.... for £20. Seriously, if you need a part, just try them! They specialise in Rootes stuff but have lots of other stock. www.speedyspares.co.uk/Fitted with the assistance of mantaphil who went above and beyond to get me on the road. The car was at the gathering as a result of the whole TAB crew who lent/gave parts big and small and time and experience. Final stance before heading out... Soooo, first of all, a massive thank you to all who had kind words to say about the Rekord. You are all too kind! I even went and won one of those there award things! The 'Cool' award and very nice it is too, little 3D printed thing. So thanks to all the judges Sorry to those I didn't get enough time to chat to, or even failed to chat to at all Like every year, could really do with it being a whole week of camping just to get enough evenings hanging with people (although I'm not sure my body could sustain the meat/beer based diet that long!) Some facts... -Rekord's first MOT since 2000 -More miles travelled in its first week on the road in my ownership than in its entire last year on the road -16mpg-ish on the way there. A hooky mod gave me 24mpg on the way home -Used little oil (I'm looking at YOU Monza engine) -Blew 1 fuse (didn't really blow it, it was just old and corroded!) -Didn't need anything doing on its trip other than aforementioned bits. Oh and the tyres pumping up periodically. Totally in love with the 3 speed column shifter. Its fun, easy to use and makes the car a breeze to drive. Just needs a slightly longer rear axle for happier cruising, but I have a plan for that... Lots of ideas picked up from various locations, new contacts met, mojo topped up, happy times I'm pretty worn out, but will be pottering around in the Rekord until I get something winter-friendly on the road, which is the next task. So this car is being paused for the time being Lots of ideas to come though, that 6 to fit for starters plus a few other touches. I'm excited to get at it

I was supposed to be giving this a little TLC this weekend, but I think I must have been fully spannered out as it's just not happened. Did have another look through the paperwork that came with the car... Mileage logbook states it had done 80000 miles at the end of 1979... I got it with 81220 on the clock! So for most of its life it must have been hiding in a garage somewhere! Madness. Looking through the destinations in the book, the good doctor too this everywhere... Various Scottish trips, trips to Heathrow, and all over the country. I feel a Scotland camping trip coming on... If I can improve the mpg haha. Also have the original bill of sale. The massive sump guard was added at the dealer it cost 4pounds 15 shillings I think!
