I only bought this car just over a month ago as a cheap run around as I missed the Alfa Spider I had years ago, however I cannot justify keepiong it and it needs some work doing to it. I'll say this first, its a CAT C, something I wasnt told when I bought it and I was stupid and didnt do a check. It appears the damage was very minimal, I think its had a new back bumper, this wasnt fitted very well and Ive spent a bit of time getting it lined up. There is a crack in the bonnet next to the grill opening. I think the car was written off not because of excessive damage just the low value of these cars. Anyway I paid £650 for the car and have spent the following:
£120 two new Avon front tyres
£47 wheel alignment
£50 New Lion Battery with 3 year warrenty
£15 New Alfa Romeo front badge
£45 Service parts and oil
£60 new stainless steel downpipe + £66 fitting this
£70 new Bosch Lambda sensor
£77 new Bosch MAF sensor
Theres a few other little bits too and I have receipts for all the work I've had done to the car.
I was told the car had a new cambelt and variator fitted last year and I believe this although I don't have any receipts. This was one of the reasons I bought the car as it ran so smoothly and pulled really well, I bought it down in Cambridge and had a great drive back up to Cheshire.
I got the downpipe replaced last week as it was blowing, this turned out to be a bigger job than anticipated as the stainless steel part was about an inch too short, I had this lengthened to fit properly. I got the car back and for a couple of day it drove like a new car, until it suddenly decided it didnt want to idle, I managed to get it home and then the next time I started it, it decided to idle at 1600rpm, after doing some research I assumed it was the lambda as this is connected to the downpipe, it wasnt as it still idled too high after replacing this, I then replaced the maf and this didnt make any difference, I've tried a throttle reset too all with no luck, its now been mentioned that it could be the idle control valve but I have just lost the love for it and my wife isnt happy with the amount of money I'm spending on it plus I need to get my mk1 Derby painted!
So for someone with a bit of knowledge on these cars it could be an easy fix, I cant see anything else need sorting for an mot. The car still drives great apart from the high idle.
The interior is in very good condition, not ripped, the rear seats and passenger seat are perfect and the drivers seat is worn slightly on the bolter but not ripped.
Paintwork is average although there are quite a few small car part dents.
I think thats everything, any questions just ask
I've spent alot more than I'm asking for the car but I just cannot afford to spend anymore on it.
