Dudes, I'm thinking about a tow vehicle. I don't like to spend money, I don't like 4x4's/Jeeps, I do like vans, pickups and wagons. I want diesel and at least 140bhp, sub 2K Cars/Trucks I have dismissed. 2WD Hi Lux it has 88hp 2WD L200 it has 88hp Mercedes C Class 270CDi, has the power but looks awful and are curse word reliability wise. BMW E34/E39 TDS I had one, it was more trouble than it was worth. I'm struggling to find a vehicle that'll tow 2 tons that isn't a gas guzzling 4x4. So without swapping the 3.2DID from the shogun into a 2WD L200 I can't think of anything good. Anything I've overlooked. Also love the L300 and its Hyundai equiv but again sup 100bhp.

HP isn't the only figure you should be looking for to move 2 tonnes. You want torque. My Landrover 'only' makes 120hp stock but is rated to move 3.5 tonnes without any modification. And it will and has and has pulled much more too. On private land of course

This is very true, but when its in its non towing capacity I want it to at least move at a mildly brisk pace.

Hi, I agree with Rich, Torque is what you want. I used to have a Range Rover with 160 BHP and 200 ft/lb of torque and was capable tower, I put GMC diesel in which had 160 BHP and 300 ft/lb and it used to tow like nothing was there.

Isuzu Trooper?? To be honest with you most vehicles that are good at towing that kind of weight are either going top be gas guzzlers or agricultural diesels. You are asking one vehicle to do the job of two.

I think I have found a winner. 2.2Dci for lush torque and loose the 4x4 ride height for more stability and epic coolness. I wanted a forester but the 2.5 petrol was gonna be big on juice and short on torque.

e34/9 tds.
not had any major issues with mine in 35k miles, I'm doing about 11 k a year.
other than normal servicing and a few balljoints its only needed a top pump seal and an exhaust flexi.
2000kg mam and 1800kg towing weight, 143 bhp, end tuning chipped to 170+.
e class 300 diesels are just as good hut better on fuel.

I already had a primera the snapped the core in half, they're not an awful job to change. Just time consuming. Desnso suction control valve is another dCi issue. contrary to popular belief not a renault lump. Shame its not more retro, but it will enable me to free the obscure and the rubbish from barns, fields and uncles garages throughout the land.

Fully aware it's not Renault. And I know what they are like to change, I worked for Nissan. You can buy new turbo cores nowadays for less that £150, I do that at work, never have any issues with them, seem more reliable than a cheap turbo complete.

Lwb twin wheeler transit, nice and stable when towing, not likely to look like the tail trying to wag the dog with a big trailer and load behind?

Iveco daily, pref LWB. Plated to ridiculous weights, will pull anything, separate chassis so a bit more weight in em low down and at the back so better distribution for towing. Run forever, do illegal speeds all day even with a trailer and return good mpg. Even room for a second car in the back! Or a mattress for those longer tat trips....

I'd imagine being 29 that the o.p wont be able to use a big van to tow with.
