Hi all, Just wanted top put some feelers out for the average / general cost of a garage to rent. I'm needing to put my car in a garage over winter to do some minor works and generally keep it out the harsh weather (she'll be SORNd too). My landlady has suggested she can clear the garage out at the house I live in (houseshare) if I offer her a price to rent her garage. Now for me this could be win win. Secure garage next to the house I live in with water and electricity. I was looking at possibly moving house to find somewhere with a garage, but this option could be much simpler. What do you think is a reasonable amount per month to pay to rent the whole single garage? Currently pay £380 per month bills excluded. Google doesn't give me much help! Cheers all

Most council garages are around £11 a week, thats for a basic concrete unit with no power, plus plenty of storage restrictions. I'd offer £40 a month if you help clear it out

£40-50 a month is about the going rate.

Like the residential market, completely dependent upon location. It feels like you just need to have the negotiaton with your landlady. Just start low, but not insultingly low, and have a top price in your head, based on what it is worth to you.

Cheers guys. I've gone in at £50 per month, will see what she says! I thinks that's a fair offer - especially since it's added to your existing rent and currently (if I'm not much mistaken) the garage isn't bringing in anything.

It is a fair offer, but look at it from the other perspective. She made the suggestion that the car go in there. Many landlords (landpersons?) would have just shrugged their shoulders. Sounds like she's worth keeping sweet. Ships, ha'p'orth of tar and all that.

I'd have had the garage bringing in a revenue from the beginning because they are like poor quality wobbly children's play pony poo in the area. But if it's been left vacant with no previous interest in bringing into the rental then the offer made is a fair one.

It's a case of supply & demand but having power is a big bonus. Water is good but no so important. Finding a garage close to your house is very handy! Private renting around here (Northumberland), a lockup garage (no power) was going to add about £30 a month to the cost of a flat.

Well that was my next idea, but finding a flat with a garage is likely not going to happen. It would probably have been a house, where I'm looking at a minimum of £600 per month with a garage included.

^ Sounds like you're in a good place now, I got told private rental for a lockup (no power) around our way was about £30 a month. I'd say it's worth more than that if it's on the doorstep, has power, and keeps your landlady sweet

That's bob-on. I pay £120 p/m for my garage (N London) with driveway/port for 4 cars at a squeeze, some storage, leccy, and a tap/hose which I ponce off the neighbour; I consider myself lucky, and it's opposite my house. I was even more fortunate for the first two years as it was rent free in return for a little maintenance on the adjoining house. Alas the old lady sold the land but has left the leccy connected for my benefit. Is that something you could offer to bring the cost down?

My point was he obviously has a reasonable landlady, the garage is about as handy as you'll get, has power and water so, if I was in this position and had to go a couple of quid higher, I probably would. What she did with it previously is of no matter, it's what it's worth to the renter, now. Anyway, carry on.

I'm paying £40 p/m for one around se London/kent way, luckily quite secure but no leccy or water. but store all my shizzle in there plus a motor. had one with leccy and water but the landlord went funny with car anticts. that was I think £160/£200 a month with space outside to store a breaker . escrots and st170's were the cash money breakers
