You can find out where it was moted by getting a replacement mot certificate here www.lostmotcertificate.co.uk/It cost £10 by paypal but I used them last week as I lost mine and I only had to use the reg.

Hi, you may have got it because you're the registered keeper requesting a replacement certificate, there're no guarantees they would supply it someone else.

Colin There were no checks though, I just put in the reg and make and they sent a copy to my email, It did ask for my name but I only used my first and I also used my brothers paypal so even the address is different. I guess its just linked to a computer somewhere that just sends them out.

Yeah, so this totally worked. Got the certificate, called the garage, mate of a mechanic owns it, number passed on.
Wow, this has taken me a year! Cheers colt1982, I really appreciate it!
Probably doesn't speak very well to the security of that information though...

That's rather dodgy... your intentions are noble, but wouldn't take much for a crim to find your car doing that, or give credentials to a ringer...

To be fair, all I know is the garage it was last MOT'd at. They agreed to pass on my number, I don't know what other information they would have given me as I didn't ask. I'm relying on their goodwill, so I didn't want to push it or come off as a weird stalker.
I'm lucky they gave me any information - It could have been sold, the owner could have moved or the station could have told me to shove it.
But I do agree, I'm sure my local MOT garage aren't completely up to scratch on the data protection act, so it does kind of leave people exposed.
