As a punter in classic car market (namely E28/E30) want to know if anyone has used anyone they'd recommend? I'm thinking of these guys, they can also do a shadow evaluation while you follow their instructions on the phone (for free) which is too good to pass up. www.classiccarinspections.comDon't know yet how much value for money they are but I'm prepared to pay a good price for the right expertise before dropping any cash on a motor. Unfortunately I'm not mechanically minded but doesn't mean I don't appreciate the charms of a vintage ride. Any advice chaps? N

Please take this with a pinch of salt since I too am no expert and have been ... "duped" in the past, but depending on how confident you feel, if you find a car you like, there is more than likely going to be a "buyers guide" which is well worth reading (AND UNDERSTANDING - something I failed to really do and I paid the consequences) and carrying out the checks yourself. The best ones are a blunt instrument to certain areas of the underside of a car, with permission of the owner of course. Should he say no, take this as a suspicious sign that he is hiding something from you. Presuming the classic car you're interested is not a project, then you should be able to ask for a test drive. Also, presumably, it will have an MOT. Search up "MOT checker" and use the government one to see the history of a car.
Good luck!

Not sure about inspections but post any cars your interested in on the 5forum. Lots of other E28 owners on there and a few that would happily look over any prospects for you. I'd be happy to.

Its worth asking owner clubs as the car may belong to a member, be known to the club or someone local that knows the workings on that model may offer to have a look for you.
type the reg number into an internet search to see if anything comes up.

That's not a bad idea. When I was looking at an RST which the owner claimed had a genuine shell it turned out to be an RS1600i shell as the original was deemed very rotten years ago! Depending on how much the club member is liked that can backfire however. My Stag was one of these. It even "managed" to have the following go wrong between two MOTs: What was the advisory? Tyres cracking Same for a 944 I saw off an owner's site. People were saying it was a good car and good value. If I am honest it wasn't far off some of the 'rolling' restos I bought with things evaluated!
