While not for sale, I'm curious to know what my Passat B1 Estate might be worth as I'm toying with the idea of agreed value with the insurers. ![](http://i44.photobucket.com/albums/f42/fredhowat/DSC_0002.jpg) 1979 Passat LS Varient, 1.6 Petrol, 75BHP She's done 67k miles and is in near mint condition - never been welded or filled, and certainly doesn't need it. Everything is absolute OEM spec, including paintwork, wheels, carb, interior, stereo etc. She's also just had an overhaul of the cooling system, ignition system, exhaust system, fuel system, brakes, gear linkage plus various other parts so is in solid working order. Her first MOT in 20 years only brought back 1 advisory (front nearside wheel bearings have slight play). She's also done 100 miles of fault-free driving since then. As far as I can tell, she's also the only mk1 passat estate left in the UK, not that this necessarily equates to any extra value. Very hard to value due to lack of other examples. Anybody got any guesstimates? Thanks all very much

It is probably unique in the UK and a remarkable survivor. I would have thought maybe 5K for an insurance valuation but it's incredibly difficult to say as there is no market to base anything on.I can imagine it for sale with KGF or similar for more than that though. Looking at old ads i found a 76 hatch with 37k on for 4k back in 2013 but that had a full restoration and yours is totally original, they are only original once. There is a 67000 mile project hatch on C&C if you fancy another, looks very saveable and very cheap! www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C794391

Firstly, stunning old girl! It's great to see a rare survivor and one in such nice condition.
Agree with highvoltage, very difficult to guesstimate value with no others coming up for sale but £5K seems like a minimum figure to me when nice Mk 1 Polos are fetching £4 or £5K. At the end of the day it's all about what the 2 richest enthusiasts in the room will pay at auction, that's it's real value but you can't find that out if you don't intend to sell it.
Not much to go on from the one photo but if it's in very good condition all round I'd look to lifting it to get it as good as possible in all areas, (or perhaps it already is?) If you could bring the car up to a sub-concours state & obtain confirmation it's the only one in the UK, I could see in a year or two it could commercially be worth £10K if well promoted & advertised, (whilst appreciating that you don't wish to sell).

Yeah I agree it definitely has concours potential if you went that route though it would mean using it sparingly and giving it a cossetted lifestyle. One thing for sure once you start going to a few VW orientated shows its soon going to become a well known car on the circuit.
I've just been looking at the similarly aged Scirroco that KGF is selling for 15k.Lovely car and ok its a Scirroco not not a Passat but even so..the Scirroco is not wearing its original paint either.

Thanks for this. And spot on about only being worth what someone is willing to pay. My concern with lifting (although very little would need to be done) is my lack of knowledge might actually hinder the progress of a full fix/detail. I guess the double edged sword of inheriting a 'rare' car to learn on! Nonetheless it's my aim to ensure rust never has the chance to set in, and I'll be doing my best this winter to give everywhere the attention it deserves (whereas the last 10 months have just been about getting her driving/functioning again!) Yeah I agree it definitely has concours potential if you went that route though it would mean using it sparingly and giving it a cossetted lifestyle. I certainly do hope to attend some VW shows next year! I went to several this year, but alas the car wasn't finished! And that's a lovely Scirroco I must say! Somewhat more refined that my mustard cube!
