I needed some speakers for when I was working outside. Previously on my build thread I showed this monstrosity:
The time came to make something a bit more permanent and less prone to gravel collecting.
It is essentially the same deal. 750w (yeah right!) PC PSU, random headunit and pair of 10cm door speakers. But now its got rear speaker ports, sub out and will be extended to hold 12v/5v/3v test lines. The speakers are separate from the power and have a 3m cable which has a fabric shroud to protect it and because it looks cool mostly.
The HU and PSU are supported by 2mm steel plates. The PSU plate is simply to stop it sliding in, its currently unsecured and can move backwards (out the case) but it only goes an inch before the fan guard catches. The HU plate screws directly into the HU as it already has tapped holes. I chose to mount it on the back at the heat sink.
Duct tape was just to cover the screws I used as they were far too long and I didnt want anything snagging on them. The head unit uses a standard loom so can be removed and installed in a car again and can easily plug in any head unit if I need to. The PSU has a whole bunch of safety systems built in so theres no real danger, it also produces more than enough power. I use one to power a 500w amp and its never struggled.
The latest edition was hard wiring an old MP3 player as the battery had well and truly curse word itself and was pushing the screen out it had swollen so badly.
Theres still a bunch I want to do. The whole thing needs trimming, it needs a proper carry handle and I have some tool box latches so I can secure or separate the speakers from the HU/power.
It also has 2 120mm holes in the top, one is for the PSU fan the other is for a PC fan to cool the HU. But after a lot of use the HU doesnt get that warm, you can comfortably hold it. So I don't know if I will fit the fan or not.
